I sent my 94 year old mother to the emergency room with slurred speech and left face droop. I called ahead to give the ED staff a heads up. Dr Pollock ordered a head ct and ekg as appropriate. EKG showed a new atrial fibrillation. Instead of keeping her and making sure she does not stroke out from the clots forming with a-fib. He sent her home on an oral blood thinner, called it TIA and told her to find and followup with a cardiologist. to get the Head MRI as an outpatient. The Reason??" We don't want to expose her to possible corona virus". REALLY???? we avoid treating an active new diagnosis for a possible exposure to the COVID19?? She fell in the night at home and her slurred speech and mouth droop continues??? When I called back to ED they said well she needs to come back if her symptoms are worse. My question was why did you discharge her in the first place?? Still waiting for an answer??? Toledo Hospital what happened to you??
