List of Robert J. Berkowitz's Reviews
Had a single level microdiscectomy in December. Returned to the office and called with numerous concerns in the days and weeks following surgery. Seen him and his assistant Dearth about concerns. Was told normal and nothing to worry about. Was sent to wound care 1st week of February because bottom of incision wouldn't heal. Here I had a giant tunneling seroma. So had my back cut back open and a large amount of tissue removed. So apparently all the odd swelling and pain I had in the days and weeks wasn't normal. I spent 13 weeks living with an open wound and having weekly debridements. HORRIBLE 13 WEEKS. The pain and bleeding left me struggling to function. I had to quit physical therapy and couldn't get any injections in my spine to help the nerve pain in my legs and feet that never completely resolved after surgery. So after 13 weeks of my life being DESTROYED, I still have drop food, still have pain in my legs and feet. This man doesn't listen and is arrogant.
Dr. Berkowitz and his entire staff are professional caring and informative throughout and after my neck fusions and bone grafts I recently had. Everything prior by everyone involved, right up to the morning of the surgery I was introduced the entire nurse and surgical staff and met the doctor again right before I Irolled in there then off to sleep..woke up from recovery and other than slight pain where the incision was I asid to myself, Wow! my symptoms were gone!! well its been about four weeks and I ll say that I haven't felt better!!. I have to restrain my self because I feel alot better But I have to take time to heal. One day I literally thought to myself one morning, I feel 20 years younger!!Long story short Dr. Berkowitz is a Godsend and his entire staff are Number one In my book Highly recommended!!
Dr Berkowitz is straight forward.. I've been holding off on surgery for years, but after checking all the boxes in healing, surgery was my last option. It's been two weeks since my surgery and the radiating pain is gone. Dr Berkowitz explained in detail what will take place during the procedure and care afterwards.. Im a 100% satisfied patient and I just want to thank him for a job well done. I honest don't understand why there are 1 star reviews. He gives you four choices and puts the ball in your court. Maybe it's not the answer they are looking for, but Dr Berkowitz knows what he's doing and you can honestly place your trust and confidence with him. Thank you again sir..
I have seen many doctors over the years and have to say that Dr. Berkowitz has a horrible bed side manner. My appointment was scheduled for 3:45 p.m. and I was not seen until 5:15 p.m. THAT IS RIDICULOUS. Barely got an I'M SORRY out of him. If I was 5 minutes late they would have me reschedule. Then felt he was in a rush to get me out. Very rude while talking to me like he didn't have the time of day to talk to me. We are talking about doing spine surgery not taking out a splinter. The doctor didn't even go over my MRI OR XRAY to show me what was going on with my spine. He just said THIS IS WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU, WE CAN DO NOTHING, WE CAN DO THERAPY, WE CAN GIVE YOU A SHOT IN YOUR BACK OR SURGERY. His assistant Eric is just as rude and I mentioned that to the doctor and again no concern. Eric came into the exam room before the doctor and did a little pre exam and with out even looking at my MRI OR X-RAYS asks me SO ARE WE GOING TO DO SURGERY? OMG Just horrible!!!
Dr Berkowitz is a very kind and caring person. He has done such a fantastic job with both my cervical and lumbar fusions!! I definitely would recommend him to everyone and I would definitely request his services in the future if needed. Thank you Dr Berkowitz 😊
I feel like I’m getting minimal standard of care seeing Dr. Berkowitz. I was first referred to a surgeon named Michael Lopresti on March 2,2021 by my PCP. The day before my appointment they canceled after receiving my notes from my Surgeon Dr. Elkanich from Las Vegas. They said in reading the notes I need surgery to fix what has been causing my extreme pain. They said he doesn’t perform surgeries so I needed to get a new referral. I then called my PCP and informed him. My PCP then sent me to see Robert Berkowitz on March 16,2021. During my appointment after reviewing my post surgical MRI done out in Las Vegas that wasn’t even a year old, and reading my chart notes from my surgeon. Dr. Berkowitz stated he thinks a screw could be lose, and that I have to do Physical therapy for 6 weeks to get MRI approved, then to get a CT scan approved. He order an EMG which came back normal(not sure how) when I have been dealing with this feeling of walking on marbles since January of 2020, and having shooting sciatica pain down my right leg! I have to take Lyrica to stop the shooting pain!which it helps, but doesn’t help with the marble feeling, and back soreness!! I went in to see Dr. Berkowitz again on May 20,2021. He said i believe you are in pain, but you need to complete the physical therapy, then call him back in 4 weeks to set up an appointment. I called and received an appointment for July 27,2021. On July 10,2021 I was in a car accident. My discharge instructions where to follow up immediately with my surgeon after receiving the CT scans results which read in my S1 area on the left hand side I have a screw fracture. With that information I was able to get into the injury clinic, and get an appointment for July 20. Then after an hour and half wait was told a broken screw isn’t emergency surgery, given a week off of work, and also Tylenol with codeine, and prednisone. I was also given an appointment with his PA Eric the following day. I arrived at my appointment on time, and waited in the room for an hour. To be told what the hospital said , and that they need a MRI to finish the puzzle in treating me! His pa told the MA to send the office note, my finished PT, and CT scan to get the MRI approved. I was also informed I have to see a new surgeon in their practice due to Dr. Berkowitz not performing ALIF surgeries! I go to my appointment July 20 after waiting 45 min past my appointment time, only to be told in the hallway(not even a room) the MA says she is unsure why I’m even at this appointment, because his PA doesn’t perform surgeries. I said It was scheduled before I went to the injury clinic. She then said well there is nothing we can do, and I said I’m still waiting for my MRI approval. She said that takes 10 days through the insurance. She then gives me another surgeons information. I called Tuesday July 27 to see what was going on with my MRI. Only to be told the MA didn’t get all my notes from PT office. Saying I only completed 6. I HAD to call to get my PT notes faxed over per that office to get the “ball rolling faster”! I did, so now my MRI might or might not be going through approval! I’m beyond frustrated! I’m in pain, and want to be fixed! I don’t understand how they have the answer on what is causing me pain, and I’m still not being helped! I feel like they are just making me jump through hoops, when if he didn’t want to take me on as a patient to send me to someone who could help me so I can get back to work without pain!!
Very professional and comfortable atmosphere, everyone was nice and helpful. I am glad I crossed paths with Dr. Berkowitz with the issue I had. Damn good at what he does
He said there is nothing wrong with me. Even though I've had 4 MRI's, X-Ray's, and an EMG that say otherwise. I would not recommend someone to even take their pet to him. Especially if they care about it.
Has a very impressive curriculum and biography. Not doubting his expertise but he was very rude and unprofessional at appointment. Talking about the patient loud at hallway without protecting the privacy and jumping in to conclusions that was more like a personal opinion rather than the evaluation itself.
I was going to a pain Dr. for my pain in my back. I had the shots. They worked for awhile and didn’t anymore. My pain doctor referred me to Dr. Berkowitz and was the best thing. He found scoliosis and herniated disc. I think number are L1 L2 L3. Since my surgery I able to do things I couldn’t before. He put cages and rods in. I don’t even know they are there. If I ever need surgery again I would certainly go back to him.
