John Christopher Hummel's Online Review Report Card

Always friendly and quick for appointments! Never have to wait and they spend time with me and explain everything so clearly. Had cataract surgery and can see so well now! I was always unbalanced and was treated for vertigo several time, cataracts can cause unbalance and now I can stand on one foot and am so balanced! The staff are friendly and so helpful!

Everyone was so kind and helpful through all the testing until we saw Dr. Hummel. Perhaps he was having a bad day. They had us watch a video about cataract surgery and all the things that can go wrong. When we asked the doctor about those things like blindness, glaucoma, retinal detachment, etc. we evidently insulted him. He seemed very irritated with us for asking questions and suggested perhaps my husband didn't even need to be there. We were never told any results of the tests. We still paid our $45 co-pay but were very disappointed that all we received for our time and money was unprofessionalism from Dr. Hummel and now we have more questions than when we got there. 😢 Update: Cindy, the very nice office manager, called this morning to let us know that they would not be charging us for the visit nor would they bill our insurance and that Dr. Hummel would answer any questions we might have. We just asked that he send the results to my husband's regular eye doctor. Hopefully he will remember you only get one chance to make a good first impression.

Dr. Hummel and his staff are very friendly, helpful, caring and extremely knowledgeable. I had some issues due to wearing gas permeable contacts which required numerous appointments until a correct measurement could be taken. I'm grateful that they weren't trying to hurry me through but took the extra effort to make sure I had a successful cataract surgery. From the moment I entered through the two procedures everyone has served me well, often making me feel like I was their only patient. I was never rushed, all my questions were answered, no pressure to go with more expensive lens (even though I did talk myself into those Panoptic lens and I'm so glad I did. I can see better than I have in 55 years and it is because of the expertise of Dr. Hummel and his staff. I have recommended Dr. Hummel to everyone I know and will continue to do so.

We are currently under a city mask mandate and the Mercy hospital campus requires masks currently. I saw about 8 staff members in the office and only one staff member wore a mask - not the person at the reception desk, not the person that helps you order glasses, and not even the Doctor who has to get up close to you to look in your retinas. The person that wore the mask was the tech who checked the prescription for my eyes. This person asked me to take my mask off because the nose piece on my mask would not fit on the viewer to check my eyes. When I saw Dr. Hummel, he said I could take my mask off if I wanted and made me feel uncomfortable because I wanted to leave my mask on. I wish I would have known what this office was like before I went there. I don't think I would have come. My husband needed to make his annual eye appointment and I suggested not going during the pandemic or find another doctor.

I had a very bad experience with Dr Hummel. I definitely could not recommend him. He comes across as, not really even wanting to be there. Very unprofessional and uncaring. Maybe he was just having a couple of bad days..?? that’s always a possibility, but I’ll never go back, and would not recommend him to anyone. His staff, however, is very helpful and friendly, which was very much appreciated.

Dr Hummel and the staff are genuinely kind and professionally on each appointment. Top notch rating!

Ive known Chris ever since I was a baby and I remain extremely close with his family. A couple months ago a cyst like protrusion appeared on my eyelid. I quickly called Dr. Hummel and he got me in immediately. His staff his extremely efficient and very respectful. They made my experience very enjoyable very time I walked through the door. Dr. Hummel did surgery on my eyelid and it healed COMPLETELY IN TWO DAYS. He made me comfortable during the surgery and talked to me throughout the operation. If you want to go to a very experienced and professional doctor then Chris Hummel is the man.

I went to se Dr. Hummel for a Lasik consultation. I felt very rushed, and he acted like I was inconveniencing him by asking detailed questions. His attitude towards me made me feel very uneasy about choosing him to do a very important surgery.
