List of Matthew Bengard's Reviews
Our experience with Dr. Bengard was unbelievable… and not in a good way. He exploded into the room, immediately chastising my son for sitting on a stool, stating, “No one sits on MY stool”. He disparaged his staff, furious that he had not been logged into the computer (he’s a hand surgeon, but apparently he doesn’t know how to use his own hands?), stormed out of the room, stating he would be back after they had done their job. He then came back and gave us 20 minutes to decide if our 13 year old was going to have surgery (we thought we were simply coming in for evaluation and casting), telling us despite multiple requests for his professional recommendation that it was “up to us”, specifically our terrified teenager. Wow. Do not see. Do not refer to. Do not waste your time reaching out to the patient liaison (you won’t get a call back). He may be a great surgeon, but his bedside manner is nonexistent, and his behavior and treatment of his patients and staff are nothing short of abhorrent.
Waste of time in an odd way.
He is a very nice Dr and explains everything that needs to be done. Staff is very kind and they all make you feel very comfortable. Would recommend this office to anyone that needed any kind of surgery
Dr Matt figured out what was causing the pain in my hand and resolved it quickly. First time I’ve been pain free in over a year!
Incomplete & Poor Communication . He Scolded me & lacked care with zero detailed instructions. A very terrible experience all together.
Knowledgeable, and, yes, still arrogant.
Felt very rushed and dismissive. I get the feeling that he’s only interested in cases that will need surgery, and that anything less severe is a waste of his time.
Dr. Bengard is a good hand specialist and doctor. In emergency surgery he saved my left hand. He's good enough because he was able. However, 4 years after surgery, my hand still burns and aches and nerves are still reacting at surface level and I have shocks jolting into my fingers every few seconds. Extremely uncomfortable and I won't go back.
Zero bedside manner. In a hurry at our consult. Unable to answer simple questions about thumb health and performance expectations. Even the value of ibuprofen for swelling..Seemed only interested in surgical cases which he very quickly determined was not my case. He was at that point “ done” with me and my questions. Very rude and dismissive. The paperwork he gave me contradicted some of his answers about thumb tendon care.
He was very nice and explained everything to me in a way that I could understand.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
