List of Merritt Health & Wellness's Reviews
Let me start off by saying, I worked with Seth, side by side, for close to 3 years. His work ethic and cate for patients is unmatched!! Some could say that I'm biased, but I'm not. I moved away for 4 years and came back only to learn my favorite provider went out on his own. And took some of the best practitioners with him. I see Ali, as Seth's practice was full. And I'm not one to use my 'I knew you when' card. Ali's phenomenal!!!! She's a great listener, she's validating, and she's not afraid to talk me off the ledge. As a Black woman, Healthcare spaces can be difficult to navigate. That has not been my experience with Ali. My husband and I have also been working with Thad and his 4 legged co-trainers. He has been able to help me manage the menopausal shape-shifter and hubs is waaaaaaaaayyyyyy down. So much so his breathing is less labored, there's no sleep apnea, his tummy has totally transformed. He's now at a weight where he can get his bad knees replaced and the umbilical hernia removed. Thad has been a champion of my hubs. The environment is less stressful than being at a gym. We get one on one attention tailored to both of our individual needs. There's been reviews about admin, this has NO reflection on the stellar medical care received from Seth's team. I refer every patient who doesn't have a pcp to them because I know, they'll be in good hands.
If I could leave zero stars, I would. The level of disrespect I experienced from Merritt Health was completely unacceptable. I had a family emergency and missed an appointment. I tried multiple times to reschedule but couldn’t get through — there is no clear or accessible way to contact the office directly. When I finally reached someone via email, I was contacted by Ryan Merritt, who responded in an extremely unprofessional and condescending manner. Instead of showing any empathy, he told me “the least I could do was apologize to the doctor” — as if my emergency and efforts to communicate didn’t matter. As a patient, I was made to feel ashamed and disrespected, not supported. This is NOT how you treat someone trying to seek care. I will not be returning and cannot recommend this business to anyone who values compassion and professionalism in healthcare.
BE WARNED!! These “doctors” are SCAMMERS. If you are a new patient looking for a doctor DO NOT COME HERE and save yourself over $300!!! They will make you wait 3+ months and then intake you as a “new patient” appointment, which from my experience with other doctors, is a physical with a few extra questions as a new patient, and some blood work. Through Merritt Health & Wellness, after they “lost” all my paperwork I had filled out online, at my appointment, they asked me everything again in person for 20 minutes, and did not perform any actual healthcare, and charged me $318.08 as “New patient ov. 60-74 minutes”. Beyond this, they have no secretary to speak with at their office and explain any of this to. This furthered the scam narrative when my “doctor” was over half an hour late, and then charged me for the full hour+. OH! And when I tried to talk to someone at their “office” about this with because I assumed this was a mistake, they laughed at me and told me that I should have known better. Honestly, I am shocked that in a day where healthcare is so costly, there are doctors out here making it seem like you're getting medical care, but in reality are just charging to interview you about your medical history and then belittle you for not understanding that this is apparently the new normal for "doctors" and definitely not scam artists. Super cool experience, however I do not recommend to anyone actually seeking healthcare for a reasonable price, especially considering if this is what they're doing to new patients, I cannot imagine what other charges they are making for regular visits.
The medical care I've received deserves a very high rating. However, the office/billing is horrendous and incredibly rude. As long as nothing goes wrong with your billing (like them losing a payment) you'll probably be happy.
I tried to use this group as a new patient. My experience was absolutely terrible. You have to schedule yourself online. You do not talk to a human - if you call, you're told to leave a voicemail and fill out your information through their online tools. The tools are crap, it timed out on me multiple times. I get through all of that BS - had an appointment date, filled out all the data requested, confirmed my insurance and - THEY CANCELLED MY APPOINTMENT BECAUSE I HAVE MEDICARE RELATED COVERAGE. If I could give this team a ZERO - I would. \
I have filled Seth for years now and everyone who has come to work here is amazing, kind thoughtful and cares about the patients. No front desk or medical assistants here! Book online and you do the paperwork online and keeps his overhead lower. Best care I've ever received and Thad with guided exercise and HBOT is kind and caring plus who doesn't love pups helping you learn new routines to help your health? Handicap parking in driveway but street parking otherwise. Just a few stairs in to the building as well. They do telehealth as well and they will communicate with you via email to get updates and what you talked about for plans of care. If you are looking for someone who won't just push meds at you and not try to find the root cause you're definitely not going to the right place, because they all do this. Please give them a shot if you've ever been told your bloodwork's fine but you know you feel like doodoo as I can say you'll have more bloodwork than you'll imagine here but there will be some great things happening! I moved to Salem and I still drive 45 min to see anyone here so that means something.
Former happy client discharged from the clinic after they sent me to collections for $128. Not only did this happen without my knowledge, i didn’t find out until I reached out for a refill for my life saving mental health meds. From my understanding it’s common practice to at least prescribe 3 months of meds while someone finds a new doctor. They would only give me one month and said good luck. “Better start calling now to find someone new who can write your prescriptions.” Beyond disappointed as I was a client in good standing wasn’t trying to not pay, been dealing with my husband and his 8 surgeries this year. Seems I’m not the only one discharged from this clinic. Good luck to anyone still here and I won’t be referring this business to anyone but instead will be telling them to steer clear. Oh and if you’re in mental health crisis they will simply send you links to 988 but clearly not care if you’re in crisis or what your outcome might be. Be ware of this business. Also they make you pay through PayPal and not easy to use any HSA or any other type of payment. Their system and billing manager is a joke and not nice or understanding.
Update: They fired me as a patient for writing this review! Original: “Another great place if you’re white straight cis abled and rich. I loved my queer doctor who used to work here. Now it just feels like the portland legacy white men’s club complete with rude entitlement. They failed to update my home address despite me filling out the paper work and then sent bills to my old address and didn’t try to reach me by phone or email, then sent a collections threat for a $60 bill. Who does that? Let’s ruin people’s credit for $60. Nope. Now they aren’t replying to my response. Also the math on these reviews does not check out. A number of 1 star reviews somehow not affecting the overall average. Finally, the responses from Seth on here are just gaslighting boilerplate. Why is he talking about verbal abuse toward staff in response to a comment about the rudeness OF staff? Nice try.” UPDATE: I started with Ali, who is great, but the white men fired me as a patient. STILL didn’t have the right address and sent it to the old one certified mail so I had to make the extra trip to the post office to get fired by my dr office in these times when it’s very hard to find a primary care doctor, especially as a queer, trans, neurodivergent person. It’s no surprise that the non cis white men at this clinic have great reviews, and most of the good reviews for the merritts are from assumably cis male clients. The Merritts should retire and sell the practice for $1 to the women who work there and know how to treat people.
Was not open during a regular open day and dr would not call back. Have asked and asked over a year for a specific appointment no referral no appointment it's not okay. The site often doesn't work to schedule. Having a working phone or a email would be nice. Still waiting over a week for a call back from a important call.
Have been coming here since 2014 and have seen nearly all the providers. They tend to be more on the woo woo side of things with supplements and such, but I prefer that more than having tons of meds pushed. Lindsey has really helped me resolve SIBO issues after a bad raw oyster infection that sent me to the hospital. I get most of my care here and they all have good bedside manner and skill level. Big props to them for taking OHP as well, I have employer insurance now but back in 2014 I really needed to find a decent clinic on OHP which is hard to find. I love that it's in this cute house in Sellwood as well.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
