Pediatric Cardiology Center Of Oregon's Online Review Report Card

This is an amazing cardiology center, and they have literally saved my child's life, who was diagnosed in utero with a congenital heart defect. He has needed multiple open heart surgeries and interventions, and he is thriving! Dr. Chang is a fantastic doctor -- always up on the latest research, takes TONS of time with us every visit, has the most lovely gentle manner (my kids love him!), and takes great care of us. When my second child had tachycardia, we saw Dr. Legras, who cured that with an interventional procedure. We have been part of the PCC family for more than a decade now and can't say enough about them!!

I found Dr. Legras horribly rude, dismissive and after seeing other reviews, I'm not at all confident in his assessment of my son. He dismissed my son's tachycardia, dizziness, shakiness and chest pain by calling him a couch potato (he's not but it was clear correcting him would get nowhere). Dr Legras was impatient when my son, who has autism, struggled to express his symptoms by doing a hurrying motion with his hand and if my son didn't speak fast enough he'd just move on to the next question; when I would try and step in to explain so that the doctor clearly understood my son's symptoms he would wave his hand to shush me and even snapped at me. My son's heart rate is getting up to 191bpm just walking and Dr. Legras saw this, and while his regular pediatrician and endocrinologist agree this is NOT normal, and even IF my son was just a couch potato, that's NOT normal! He said my son just needed to exercise more. If his heart is getting to almost 200bpm just walking, exercise could be very dangerous, that just seems like common sense to me but apparently is not a concern to Dr. Legras. My son's pediatric clinic had never referred to Dr. Legras before and won't again after telling them of my experience. I got a second opinion referral to Doernbecher, and having worked there for many years I'm confident not only will we get a more competent physician but one who has basic people skills at the bare minimum, something Dr. Legras seems to be lacking. Take your child anywhere but here if they have heart issues.

Dr Marc LaGras has been such amazing doctor to my son whom has scene him since he was month old and my son enjoys going to see him .

My daughter was referred here by her pediatrician after seeking a sports physical. We were told it would be about a month for an appointment, which is to be expected for a specialist. When we arrived for our appointment, we were told that Dr. Chang reviewed the chart and didn't realize which member of the family had Long QT Syndrome (me/mother), he said he wouldn't be fit to see us. I don't know anything about how different members of the family having heart conditions affects which pediatric cardiologist a child can see...so anyway the doctor canceled our appointment so we had to reschedule with another doctor another day. When we got to our second/first appointment, the M.A. or tech who ran the EKG testing on my daughter was literally sweet as can be, 10/10. When Dr. Lagras came in, he was very matter-of-fact and honestly quite cold. He asked a lot of questions and I'm grateful for that and he cleared my daughter for basketball, saying that she is completely fine to play with no restrictions which I am also grateful for. His bedside manner is just...rough. For example, my daughter couldn't remember the details of the very first symptom he asked her about, having listed it on her symptoms months prior (she has a learning disability which makes it hard for her to recall long-term memories) so from then on he would only let me answer for her. And when I would look to her for help to describe the symptoms in her body, he implied that because she couldn't remember that very first symptom, that her memory is unreliable, unusable and would only allow me to answer his questions. It made her feel bad about herself. He also said that he reviewed my medical history (did not know they accessed other patients records without permission haha but that's okay) and he said that he thought there was a good chance that my cardiologist misdiagnosed me with Long QT syndrome (but good to know). One issue was how he went about talking about my daughter's weight right in front of her. I knew he would bring the matter up as I am sure it is relevant to her trouble breathing, so I tried to gently mention the issue first but then when he talked about her weight, he mentioned things about being sedentary, not being disciplined enough and saying things along the lines of "yea well if you don't care enough, it's not going to change". I'm not entirely sure whether he was criticizing me or criticizing her or both of us, but of course my daughter took it as if it was to her. She just sat there with her head hanging down and cried when we left but I told her that what he said are general facts, it was just not great how he said it. This is just my two cents, I can't say anything about how his treatment is of long-term, seriously ill patients. I understand that doctors are extremely busy right now especially and maybe he was just trying to get through the appointment as efficiently as possible. Just maybe could use a little more sensitivity in front of a preteen girl.

My son had an appt with dr.legras today and I've never had such a dismissive and rude CHILDRENS dr . He belittled the concerns i had regarding my child and bashed his primary care physician for referring him in the first place not to mention his " I'm better than you attitude " If you get referred to this clinic stay far away from Dr.Legras. I will NOT be returning and WILL be getting a second opinion. it's a shame I have to rate the entire clinic so low because front desk and the ultrasound tech i dealt with were very kind and professional

the doctors take all the time needed to explain things & go over everything. my daughters appt was an hour & a half (versus the 10 min @ a normal pediatrician/specialist). I felt so much better after the appt... even though our situation was still the same. the doctors & nurses care about children!

When my son was 5 years old Dr Kyser performed open heart surgery to mend a hole in his heart. I don't know what I would have done if I lost him but the doctor made him all better and now he is 13 and thriving!!

My son has been a patient of Dr. Chang’s since he was 7 months old, he is the absolute best! He has seen us through 2 open heart surgeries and my son is doing great. The staff is always very friendly as well.

As with many providers at Legacy Health System, this physician is far from professional. He is rude to both the patient and the family. Instead of speaking to the parent of the child regarding that parent's person and familial health history he took the information from the adult who took the child to the appointment & the inaccurate information from the other parent (there is a child custody dispute going on at this time). Then proceeded to bad-mouth the absent parent who wasn't there to defend themselves. This was done in front of the child. When the adult who brought the child to the appointment related the parent's health history he called the absent parent a "liar" regarding that parent's own health history. This parent is a medical provider with over 30 years experience in the medical field, 24 years as a nurse with multiple advanced degrees. This name calling also occurred in front of the child. The child left the appointment very anxious and uncomfortable. This kind of behavior is emotional abuse. The parent called the medical office and the receptionist and medical assistant both refused to transfer the parent to an office manager or supervisor. Emma, the medical assistant, that took the call was rude and unprofessional. She did not tell the parent her name or her title when answering the phone, only said, "What's going on?" The parent related the accurate health history and the MA repeated the information back to the parent incorrectly. The parent corrected her and she became angry and belligerent. She then incorrectly interpreted the legal paperwork and became even angrier when the parent told her the paperwork she is referring to does not say what she is claiming. The parent asked again to speak with the office manager or the shift supervisor and was told that the parent was not going to be allowed to speak to anyone. She would not take a call back number for the supervisor to call. Apparently, medical assistants in this office also consider themselves to be lawyers. In addition, this office does not have any nurses (RN or LPN), only medical assistants. This is very dangerous as medical assistants do not have the knowledge needed to triage complex situations. A specialty office such as pediatric cardiology should have specialty nurses at least supervising the medical assistants. Medical assistants have very little schooling, especially when compared to an RN. This office is TERRIBLE! Avoid it at all costs.

Bad experience. Dismissed a severe medication reaction. We were not listened to. Dr. Marc LeGras has seen my teenage child twice for POTS. he told my son to do daily exercise, drink 80 oz of water daily and take salt pills with every meal and he prescribed a steroid medication. He told us to record this all on a chart. My son did his best (granted, he missed some days of charting and some days he forgot a salt pill or did not quite make his water goal but he is a busy teenage varsity runner struggling with illness and he is human and humans are not perfect. Point is he tried.) At the follow up appointment, Dr. LeGras went over the recommendations again and raised his steroid dose. I took notes and my son has done a great job following his orders ( we even bought a large water jug that my son carries with him to be sure he is getting his daily water quota)  but we began noticing side effects of severe mood swings and severe depression from the steroid. We pulled out the medication insert and under "serious side effects to call your doctor about", was listed "severe depression, mood swings and behavioral changes" So on Oct. 31 I called Dr LeGras and spoke to his nurse, telling them the severe side effects my son was experiencing and asking to stop the med and try something else. On Nov. 3rd I hadn't heard back so I called and spoke to his nurse again, saying since we had not heard back from the doctor, we quit the med on our own and asked for a return call and advice on a different medication. I never got a return call. Then today, November 13th we finally received a call from his business manager stating that Dr. LeGras would no longer see my son as his patient and that his follow up appointment was being cancelled because we do not follow the doctors recommendations. I was shocked. My son has been doing a great job following orders. The only order not followed was due to a reaction to the medication. Since my son quit the medication, his mood swings and depression have lifted greatly and he feels much better mentally but his POTS symptoms still affect him and need treatment. Sadly, Dr. LeGras dismissed an ill child for having a medication reaction. He never even bothered to speak to us and now my son does not have a doctor for his condition that still badly needs treatment. I have since visited multiple support groups to ask for a recommendation for a POTS/Dysautonomia doctor and have received feedback from 4 other former patients of Dr. LeGras who have expressed that he was also dismissive of them, with very poor bedside manner. I wish I had known that before wasting time with this doctor. No doctor should ever ignore a medication reaction or dismiss a sick child simply because their recommended treatment was not tolerated well. He could have had us come in and discuss other treatment options, instead he turned away sick child in need. I do not recommend him for POTS/Dysautonomia patients. We did have a good experience there with Dr. Andrew Hoyer though. Dr. Hoyer was kind with good bedside manor and took extra time explaining things.
