List of Sprout Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics's Reviews
Our girls feel so comfortable and at ease here. The cleanings and check ups are always smooth. The x-rays for my five year old were are great first experience. The Pedatric Dentists are wonderful. Highly recommend for someone looking for a safe and comfortable environment where the doctors have great knowledge and work well with young children.
After years of my kids being patients at Sprout, I regrettably can no longer recommend this dental practice. While the front office staff and most dental assistants have been pleasant over the years, there are significant issues that overshadow these positives. Dr. Fox, the primary dentist, unfortunately displays an aloof and sometimes condescending demeanor. This attitude is particularly concerning in a pediatric practice where a warm, reassuring presence is crucial. The practice does offer some child-friendly amenities like toys in the waiting area, Disney movies playing during procedures, and the no cavity club with tiny plastic toys, but these small comforts don't compensate for the larger issues. Their hours are inconvenient: Monday through Thursday: 8:00am - 4:00pm? PPS schools this fall 2024 will start as early as 7:15am, which will make it even more difficult for us working parents to get there. It was already difficult enough. Sprout's fees are excessively high, especially considering the quality of care. They seem to price themselves as if they were a cutting-edge, boutique dental office in an upscale area, which is far from the reality of Portland and their facilities. This disconnect between price and value is stark and disappointing. A major concern arose when they made an error with my younger child's filling. This mistake was recently discovered and corrected by another dentist, who not only charged less but also used more advanced technology. This incident seriously undermined my confidence in Sprouts' competence and honesty. I've also noticed a tendency to push for unnecessary treatments. For instance, they tried to sell us on dental sealants for both kids, despite them being advised that they had very recently received sealants through a school program. This kind of upselling feels unethical, especially in healthcare. My advice to other parents: 1. Scrutinize your bills carefully. 2. Don't feel pressured to immediately agree to suggested treatments. 3. For any significant procedures, always seek a second opinion. 4. Be aware that there are other local dentists offering superior care at more reasonable prices. We've since switched to a new dental practice that provides excellent care without the inflated costs or questionable practices. It's a relief to have found a dentist we can trust, both in terms of quality care and fair pricing. With better hours, too! In conclusion, while Sprouts may have some surface-level appeal, the combination of high costs, questionable competence, and pushy sales tactics make it a practice I can no longer recommend in good conscience. Our children's dental health is too important to compromise on quality or ethics.
I wish I could also write about how kind and tailored their services are, but they refused to schedule an appointment for my child when they learned he was neurodivergent. "the office is too small given they only have one dentist and they won't be able to accommodate my child". I did not mention needing any accommodations. This place is ableist and horrendous. Avoid.

We took our son here before it was sold, but our final visit they made our son feel TERRIBLE about his smile trying to sell us braces that two other dentists agree he does not need. Would never put another child through this experience.
We've been at Sprout approximately 7 years, and have recommended them to many other families, but we're moving on for our kids' next appointments. At our most recent appointment I was informed my 5 yo's one cavity had turned into three - imagine my surprise, since I didn't know he'd been identified as having a first cavity. (In fact, I recall both my kids previously signing their names to the cavity free wall - older sis is still cavity free at 8, and I would have taken a lot of extra care to prevent my 5 yo from getting any more if I knew he had one, as I am now doing). I immediately told Dr. Fox I didn't recall being told he had a cavity (shouldn't we have discussed a filling? or the silver diamine fluoride she was now recommending?). She didn't explain how that might have happened, or even acknowledge what I was saying. When I emailed asking them to forward xrays to a new dentist, I once again referenced my dismay with the lack of communication on cavity #1, and that part was once again ignored - they just said the xrays would be sent and told me to have a great day. Initially Sprout was in network for us, but we stayed for consistency sake when we went out of network a few years ago due to a job change, meaning we've been paying a lot out of pocket we don't necessarily have to. But, consistency hasn't been achieved either b/c there have been three different dentist/owners in the 7 years we've been there. Enthusiastic to try elsewhere.
We had one great dental tech that made my toddler's first dental experience good. But I was really disappointed in the practice overall. That good part happened during a 15 minute period when we were in the exam room. However, we left a long time after that without seeing the dentist. Low rating because we were waiting for over 1 hour + 15 minutes past our appointment time and all we were told is that "Dr. Lee was a little behind" and couldn't see us yet." She was obviously too busy for new patients that day. It was our first visit to this practice and we will not be back. Dr. Lee left a sheepish apology on my wife's phone (although my wife wasn't there, and I wrote my phone number on at least 3 forms while we were there) but there was no explanation of the delay nor any comment on whether this is abnormal. I still don't know what happened.
Today was our second visit, kids now 4 & 1/2 and 2 years old. Everyone is so patient and kind and truly gets each of our needs (adults included). We are excited for the ice cream party! Community is everything and Sprout Pediatric Dentistry gets that!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
