Daniel Chen Md's Online Review Report Card

I've was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 18, I am now 34. I have had 6 different neurologists over the years. They were all like robots and wanted to pump me full of drugs to the point where the side effects were worst than the seizures. So I stopped taking them as prescribed. Dr. Chen was the first doctor to agree that I should take as little drugs as possible to avoid seizures. He's allowed me to stay on a low dose until I have break through seizures.

Everything was fine except when requested to have a Follow up appointment just want to see where my brain was since my stroke Was told not in his criteria he would not see me

The other reviews are spot on. It's disturbing that he gets the same feedback on various websites yet their office administrator says she's never heard anything negative about him. Meanwhile all the medical assistants concur that his demeanor with patients is dismissive with poor listening skills and little compassion. He would be better suited for lab work without patient interaction.

Awful person. Should be barred from working with the the public. Will not listen, no clue why you are there to be seen. Tells you what you don't have, does not even start to diagnose what you do have.

Avoid if possible. We had a top neurosurgeon look at "Dr." Chen's notes on an EMG he conducted. They laughed at his notes (they laughed out loud to be clear). He isn't providing proper care, according to top neurosurgeons based out of Seattle WA. They said he did not conduct a proper physical prior to the EMG exam because his notes were terrible (only 3 words in his notes). It's alarming to hear this ...

Dr. Chen does not spend much time with patients. He is also very emotionally distant. It is difficult to ask him questions because he appears to be impatient to leave. He probably would be happier in another profession.

Does not listen and claims to have expertise with dystonia and he does not. Instead of treating my face, head, neck and shoulders after begging him he put a small amount of toxin in my face and then would only treat the back of my neck and shoulders. All of the muscles in my face, the front and sides of my neck and the base of my skull seized up into excruciating spasms. Even my vocal cords and throat. He used so much toxin in the back of my neck and shoulders that he weakened them and I spent seven weeks trying to hold by head up. The muscles in my face pulled painfully downward and the muscles in the front of my neck were so painfully constricted, I was totally unable to raise my head. I tried to get him to inject the muscles in the front but he wouldn't listen. Before the appointment for the Botox injections I repeatedly asked if he knows how to treat craniofacial dystonia and he said he did. I provided him with my previous neurologist's notes and diagrams of where she successfully injected toxin and how much but he totally dismissed them. My previous neurologist had to close her practice after successfully treating me for four years. Dr Chen assured me he knows how to treat my disorder but he has absolutely no knowledge or experience with it. It's been the worst experience of my life.

Does not listen... I took my mother who has dementia. He had his mind made up that all we were there for was to hear him say yes, she has dementia and it is slow moving. I would try to let him know what happened that made it worse overnight a few months ago. It never got better to the point she was one day able to live independently to the next day having to be totally assisted. He said yes, it moves slowly. We went through this about 3 times and after he kept saying she has dementia, he was saying something else we couldn't understand. Mom asked him to write the diagnosis on a piece of paper. He wrote alzheimer's. But he was using them interchangably. They aren't the same thing. VERY frustrating visit. Our appointment was at 11:45 am. I think he just wanted to go to lunch. I would never go back to that office. Waste of time.

Best neurologist from all the other 4 I've seen. I am more than happy with him as my neurologist. My health had definitely improved much better. I highly recommend him.
