List of P. Max Courtney's Reviews
Max Courtney fixes what nature can't. He also revises and corrects failed joint replacements done by other surgeons. He is a highly-skilled surgeon who performs many hundreds of successful joint replacements annually. Dr. Courtney has impeccable qualifications, having worked and studied at one of Chicago's largest hospitals; become an Associate Professor at Thomas Jefferson University and participating in ongoing research as part of his current position at the Rothman Institute and professional Orthopedic associations dedicated to the advancement of Orthopedic Medicine. He also has exceptional communication skills, listening carefully to patients, empathizing with patient pains and difficulties and thoroughly answering any/all questions. If you are confused by some of the marketing and hype surrounding robotic surgeries, “minimally invasive” and “rapid recovery” surgeries, I urge you to watch and listen to his presentation on “Myths, Marketing & Modern Medicine of Joint Replacements” available on YouTube. Dr. Courtney did a total knee replacement for me about 3 months ago. He, his PA-C, Hind Sawan, and the Rothman staff all did an amazing job from start to finish, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the results. It’s no longer necessary to go into the City or to a big hospital to get top-notch orthopedic surgeries when surgeons with Max’s qualifications, experience and skills are now available in the beautiful, new Ambulatory Center at Doylestown Hospital. There are quite a few choices when it comes to joint replacements these days (I interviewed 3 different surgeons in 2 healthcare systems). But I can save you some time and effort- you will not find a better knee/hip surgeon than Max Courtney anywhere.
Dr. Courtney found my pain was due to the metal ball disintegrating. He replaced the metal with a ceramic one. He then found he had to replace the lid as that was destroyed by the metal. I have had very little pain Dr. Courtney is very caring and compassionate. He is the surgeon if you need a hip revision.
Very knowledgeable, open and honest, Explains Condition and treatment plan thoroughly. Open to any questions and willing to answer even the most difficult. Very personable. Update: Be sure to question Dr. Courtney and his team about possible side effects from whatever procedure they are performing,,.AND that you completely understand the surgical procedure and metal implants being used. Lack of knowledge can hurt you and it will. Just make sure that you are aware and have full knowledge of what to look for. I’m sure Dr. Courtney,‘s last words to me prior to surgery which were “we’re going to get you out of this pain”, were offered to give me peace of mind. However, I was not prepared for the 6+ months of chronic end of stem pain from all the metal they put into my to tibia. I was not informed about the possibility of that showing up nor was I informed that the length of time it could take to subside. In other words, I wasn’t prepared for another year or two of significant pain in my leg and the inability to walk without significant pain. Don’t get me wrong! The knee feels and works great. But unfortunately all the metal that was required to place into my tibia and my femur are creating problems I did not anticipate and it has significantly impacted my quality of life…not in a good way. Again, Dr. Courtney, is a very good surgeon surrounded by good people. But make sure, no matter how much pain you are currently in, to be as clearheaded as possible and to get all the information you can so that you know what you could possibly be dealing with post operatively. Especially if they need to use long rods. Good luck
Dr. Courtney was very concerned about my health issues and doing surgery. He recommended going downtown to Jefferson Hospital in case complications occur. Explained surgery so I could understand .
First visit. Dr. Courtney took time to listen, explain and advise.
Had a great deal of pain after falling down and breaking left hip but did not heal well do to other co morbidity’s. Dr Courtney did a second procedure and got me out of pain
I was so pleased to finally find a doctor who is so knowledgeable. He explains matters clearly and thoroughly with a friendly demeanor and, more important, listens to me when I try to describe the pain I am experiencing. He reduced the stress I was going through and I left his office confident that he would resolve my issue with my knee.

Dr. Courtney and his staff are a friendly group of people who not only explain all aspects of the surgical work to be done but do it in a manner that places the patient at ease with the operation and with the recovery period afterwards. Great job all around, thank you.
Dr Courtney did a revision of my right hip that a previous surgeon had done 6 months prior and had not turned out. I was in severe pain when I went for my consultation. He was warm and caring and put me at ease when he told me he had high expectations for a successful revision. I'm now pain free and know that it's because of his skill that I'm finally able to move forward with my life. I'm very grateful.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
