The medical staff was absolutely amazing when our newborn was flown here to the NICU. No issue there. The doctors and nurses were AMAZING! The issue has come since then. THEIR BILLING DEPARTMENT IS AWFUL! After struggling to mediate between the hospital and my insurance, which I'm not sure why I had to to begin with (and was as much my insurance's fault), things were settled and we were FINALLY set up on a payment plan to pay off what we were responsible for OVER A YEAR AFTER THE SERVICE DATE! Since then, I have continually been unsuccessful in being able to pay our bill online or via their hotline. The website and phone line are awful and recognize neither our encounter number, nor our invoice number. This means I have to call a representative EVERY MONTH AND SIT ON HOLD TO PAY MY BILL! This is an awful, awful, awful experience, and usually ends eating up anywhere from 30 mins to over an hour of my day sitting on hold to pay a bill I should be able to pay online. Oh, and are you looking for an autopay option so you don't have to sit on hold every month? Well, forget it! Paying your bill is like pulling teeth. I only gave two stars because of how good the staff was to us...but billing is awful.
I went to Hershey Medical Center on Feb. 6, 2023 around 8PM and waited for quite sometime until I was admitted in the morning after taking several test. It was a pretty eventful evening. There was a situation that occurred with an individual but it was handled with professionalism by the nurses and police officers on site. I have to say for being my first time at this hospital I am extremely impressed. All of the Doctors, Nurses and Physicians assistants and the rest of the staff treated me with the best care possible. I was treated with extreme kindness and the utmost respect by every one who approached me with their care. I was admitted and then released on Feb. 8th around 8PM. I am extremely GRATEFUL to all of the doctors, nurses and the rest of the staff at Hershey Medical Center. Thank you!
The billing dept is a mess.
I'm rating ALL the doctors that helped my son. I really appreciate it and could never thank them enough. The nurses on the 6th floor that helped and cared for my son were the greatest and I greatly appreciate them. As far as the ICU most of the nurses seem to have a problem for no reason and then make you feel uncomfortable for what??!! They didn't intimate me especially the one that popped in my son's room twice and she wasn't his nurse but for some reason she thinks she Intimates plp. which I find hilarious. Her little friend who I guess feels the same who knows but that's how children act. The last 2 nurses that cared for him were the best and was always polite and did not try to make me feel uncomfortable at all and they were so sweet and patient with my son.
The er is a joke I went coughing up blood and shortness of breath . Sat in the er for 12 hrs before I got a cat scan . I guess coughing up blood and not breathing is a medical emergency . I had nothing to drink or eat for 36 hrs
I ended up in acute liver failure at 26, scary, unsure and was well taken care of by each team member, and nurse. After being admitted into the hospital, every test they could run was ran, and they did all they could to give me answer. In the past I've brought my kids here as well and have always been shown respect, concern and never felt I was wrong for bringing them. The Children's Hospital side is awesome and they truly care about their patients. If more people understood that wait times are expected in an ER that has no room and is trying their best, reviews might be better. You just have to put yourself in their shoes for 10 seconds and understand they are trying, but it's also a trauma unit that deals with life or death situations.
My brother in 12/06/22 have a stroke and thank to the doctor and nurses today 01/12/23 my brother progress going better, god blessed you every one the work in here.
Unreal my child is 9 and no one thought it would be a good idea to let me know that she won't be seen for another 2 hrs! Shame on this hospital! She hadn't eaten since the night before so she could be put to sleep for the MRI! And the receptionist was so Disgusting and disrespectful!! After this I think Philadelphia children's hospital will be the hospital I choose... This hospital should be ashamed.. they had a nurse come talk to me about she is sorry... Sorry isn't being 2 hrs behind. I honestly truly dislike this hospital the bedside manner doesn't exist and it's very sad that a hospital is allowed to get away with a 3 hr wait! Worst HOSPITAL
I’m not a patient who “lives” in the hospital. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. I regularly see some of their providers in outpatient settings. They are great, but I’m not talking about them. Today (1/17) I had a colonoscopy, and the wait is CRAZY LONG. Please don’t misunderstand that it’s NOT the patient’s fault (an emergency that required few specialists to help). Don’t take the blame on the physicians who caused delays for me and other patients. I arrived there at 6:30, registered at around 6:45ish, and ended up staying in PACU for +5 HOURS. Yes due to PACU, I’m a minor, but I’m fully competent and conscious in writing this review. All I did is being stuck in bed, iv with sodium chloride drip. I nearly didn’t want to use the bathroom because I feared I’d cross-contaminate. Luckily, I was able to. I’ve gotten an endoscopy done there and it was quick. Again, I’m not blaming the patients or providers. I just wish the hospital could do better for other patients. I get it the sicker patients are prioritized. The OR I plan to be scoped was used for the emergency. I felt bad for the gastroenterologist not being able to do anything for +4 hours because I was his first patient to encounter. The doctor also complained about the delays, which makes sense. I wasn’t ill, I got the colonoscopy due to my history although I’ve never had any severe symptoms. Doing this to see if there’s anything just in case. Just pain associated with IBS, plus weight loss, anemia, etc. After I heard the doctor saying he has 3 more patients to encounter after me, I began to feel bad for the pediatric patients. Everyone on the unit was nice. It’s just the administration not doing good with patients who come in for a simple procedure. They need to know ANY patient who comes in is as important as any other patient. Sure, I get it if there is some kind of protocol about emergencies, you can’t just ignore patients who need to get their procedures done. I’m sure they are tired and starving as they wait for an OR to open. OR or the room whatever it’s called. Please do better for the patients. Treat them equally, ALL patients need help, not just the sickest. Also, treat your staff exceptionally as well!! They also need to feel supported as well, I hate to see the rise in healthcare workers resigning 😡. I’m with them, you need to do BETTER for both the employees (regardless of what job) and the patients as well. The pandemic, RSV, virus, etc. are affecting many staff.
What a horrible health system Penn State Hershey is. No help whatsoever. 1st you wait hours to be seen. 2nd you still wait hours after you go to a room to be seen. This is not how a hospital should be run. Finally when you get a bill that's not covered by insurance, you try to set up payment arrangements. Sounds good at first until you get a notice that they are sending the outstanding balance to collections! Even after you've made payments. Either someone is not doing their job or Penn State Hershey does not care. My Dr. left Penn State Hershey and went with UPMC.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
