Pittsburgh Eye Institute Llc's Online Review Report Card

PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION IF VISITING THIS OFFICE. My PCP referred me to the Pittsburgh Eye Institute for eye discomfort and visual impairment. I was seen by Dr. Mastrine. While the tech who preformed the initial exam was very nice, Dr. Mastrine was cocky and arrogant I definitely don't mind such personalities from people who do their jobs well. However, he barely looked at me, and he was constantly disrupted with questions concerning other patients. He had to say "In or out." when the door was opened and someone hung their head in to discuss other matters. I was sent home with the diagnosis of "dry eye", no prescription, and no follow up appointment recommended. I used over the counter eye drops as recommended, but my condition continued to deteriorate. I went back, again saw Dr. Mastrine, and he conducted a second distracted exam. As the conversation was winding down, I could tell he was going to send me home again with the dry eye diagnosis. I just started saying things... I repeated what I already said so many times and anything to get attention and not be sent home again. Only then did Dr. Mastrine take another look and see what he called a "partial retinal detachment". He referred me to a specialist who said there was nothing "partial" about it, and it had been detached for a long time based on the scar tissue that developed. HOW in the world does a place called the Pittsburgh EYE INSTITUTE miss a retinal detachment???

This doctor only cares about how much money he is going to make of his patients. He is looking to sell the most expensive lenses to cataract patients. All he sees are dollar signs! Please if you value your eyesight avoid this doctor! There are so many choices of wonderful doctors to go to but he is not one of them!

I wish I would of read the reviews before taking my Mother in for cataract surgery! If I could give negative 10 stars I would...messed up not 1 but 2 surgeries! There were so many mistakes and he takes no responsibility! He thinks he does not have to answer why and walks out the door when confronted. I could go into so much detail but not wanting to waste my time or thoughts on him please just read the reviews and do your research!!! I would not recommend him to anyone and after all is said he done he owes my Mom $1800 for laser which he botched and had to do a 2nd surgery without laser complete with mistakes. She never got the money! It was very upsetting seeing my Mother go through this. Very poor bedside manner!!! Do your homework!!!

Had an emergency appointment with Dr. Findlan. Saw me for roughly 2 minutes before rushing out the door for vacation. Never sent any prescriptions in to my pharmacy. Went days without the necessary treatment. Asked the nurse for a work excuse and instead they gave me a Return To Work for that day. The Pittsburgh Eye Institute is a total trainwreck. Steer clear.

Was referred to Dr. Findland due to significant eye pain and periods of blurry vision/and complete loss of vision in one eye. I was blown off and told that my problem was caused by dry eyes and migraines - even though my dry eye strip test was completely normal! After a vision field test in his office I went from 20/20 vision to 20/200 but instead of examining my eye DURING the crisis I was put in the waiting room. 20 mins later when my vision returned I was brought into an exam room and Dr. Finland said, "oh your vision is back? It was probably just due to stress on the eye." I even allowed this man to put temporary plugs in my eyes because he assured me my problem was dry eyes. Turns out... plugs won't help you when your actual problem is optic neuritis related to demyelinating brain lesions! My referring eye doctor sent me to him to confirm this specific diagnosis... he wouldn't order an MRI. 8 painful months later a trip to the ER and an MRI told me what I could of known 8 months ago if you would of just done your freakin' job.

Have had excellent service from this facility and the doctors and assistants over the years. Like the new office location as well. More convenient than before.

I was a patient of PGH Eye Institute for a long time, before they moved to their current building on RT. 51. I went to the new building twice for appointments. I too saw the female "dr.". I agree with you DS. that she was rather rude and condescending. Then , there was a problem with the insurance. A few weeks later, I get a rather rude and nasty phone call from the billing CLERK in that office. She really needs to learn some manners. Dr. Finlan, you really need to choose your staff with a little more compassion. MS.

Inconvenient business hours, but a beautiful facility with a wonderful staff. Hoping they will extend open business hours to the weekend for those of us who work daylight Monday through Friday.
