List of Upmc Lititz's Reviews
The standard of care and concern for patients is evident here. My family and I have been to this emergency room several times. We are always seen very quickly if not immediately. They are efficient at determining which situations require more immediate attention than others. Their care for my 11 month old went above and beyond. The nurses and nurse practitioner were phenomenal. I mistakenly went to the new Lancaster Penn State Hospital where I was met by a long check in line and about 25 people in the waiting room. We were not prioritized at all. In fact, we weren't even acknowledged, so I left. We are grateful to have UPMC Lititz so close!
My husband went to the ER 6/29/23 with left lower chest/ left upper abdominal pain and pain with taking a deep breath and he was misdiagnosed as having a muscle strain when he actually had a pulmonary embolism. The doctor thought she saw left lower lobe pneumonia on the chest x-ray so she ordered a CT scan without contrast which she said also indicated the possible start of pneumonia but because he didn't have any other symptoms of pneumonia, the doctor sent him home with prescription strength naproxen and a paper about "pleuritic chest pain." When my husband developed pain on the right side of his chest the next day, he went to Penn Medicine urgent care and they ordered a d-dimer blood test to screen for a blood clot. The d-dimer was elevated so my husband was sent to Penn Medicine LGH ER and had a CT scan with contrast which showed bilateral pulmonary embolisms, in the same places where he was having his pain. The doctor there said the area that had looked like pneumonia on the left was actually an area of infarct where the lung tissue had lost blood flow because of the clot and the lung tissue was "dying", which was probably contributing to the pain. Thankfully Penn Medicine put him on the needed blood thinners. We notified UPMC Lititz that they misdiagnosed him and that we were not happy about two emergency room/hospital bills plus an urgent care bill since this could possibly have been avoided if they had diagnosed him correctly. They investigated and sent us a letter denying making any mistakes and said we are still responsible for the bills. They said that a CT scan might not have shown the blood clot. But Penn Medicine had no problem seeing the blood clots on the CT scan since they used contrast. It is scary that UPMC took no responsibility and made no offer to plan to make a change to their future ER chest pain protocol, so they might miss other people with blood clots in their lungs. This misdiagnosis probably could have easily been avoided if UPMC had done a d-dimer with the other labs they drew when he said he had chest pain with taking a deep breath or if they had done the CT scan with contrast. We understand that mistakes happen, but we were hoping that UPMC would take some responsibility for their mistake and assure us that proper measures would be put in place so that this doesn't happen to others. We went to UPMC initially because it was close to our house and convenient, but do not plan to go back to UPMC and want to warn others to avoid this place- don't waste your time and money or risk your health as a blood clot in the lung could be a potentially serious or fatal condition!
A review I wish I couldn't make but... kids. We're on vacation and a little one woke up screaming and crying with an ear infection in the middle of the night. We went to UPMC Lititz emergency room. We arrived around 2:30 am and there was no wait. No one in the waiting room and everyone was very efficient getting us back to the dr quickly, meds for my little and back home. Couldn't be happier with our visit. Wish we didn't have to make it, but happy they were there and speedy!
An excellent faculty well dedicated to their work with the patient. The surgery and recovery staff are very professional and of great human quality. They should take them as an example in other institutions. I came to upmc because of the wait times at LGH. I brought my 3 year old son who happens to be autistic non verbal. My son came in severly dehydrated because he was not eating/drinking as he regularly does. He went from drinking 5-6 bottles of pediasure a day to 1 for the whole day as he has a feeding difficulty. I had expressed all concerns multiple times with multiple visits. My son was sent away with no fluids no talk about getting him an IV or anything. Urgent care had mentioned to have him checked for a condition. With all the information their main concern was getting a sample and that was it. The second ER visit we were discharged without even being told we were being discharged (Saturday night). I was informed within 1 hour of being at LGH (early sunday morning) that not only was my son severely dehydrated, he had lost a concerning amount of weight (which I did tell UPMC) and that he needed an IV right away, they also took xrays of his stomach to see what was causing all of this diaherrea with no fluids. LGH apologized to my husband and I multiple times that UPMC did not take our concerns as a serious matter as they were telling us our son was being admitted to the hospital. He remained hospitalized for 3 nights and 4 days. I will no longer take my son or any of my family members to UPMC. I have let everyone know about my experience, and was told by multiple people that I should have never gone there. That they had bad experiences as well. I was told by my son's primary care doctor at his follow up appointment after being hospitalized that he would rather me drive to Hershey or even Philadelphia chops than take my son to UPMC if the wait at LGH is too long. I am absolutely disgusted by how I was brushed off with my concerns especially on Saturday night 6/10/23, I am glad I did not listen to you when you told me my son would be okay and it had to run its course. He was clearly NOT okay. If I could give a 0 star I would.
Excellent care great patient supoort very people oriented will be back again very nice establishment
Never had an issue when going to this hospital. But a bit more thought needs to go into protecting patient's privacy when they're checking in. Other than that, no complaints.
Been to the ER twice here, had a negative experience both times and left with no answers. First time was for a sudden onset of severe abdominal pain. They did a CT scan and somwhow couldn't find my appendix, and they did an ultrasound to check my ovaries. Nothing, and still in incredible amounts of pain. They give me morphine and send me home, saying it was probably cramps or stress. One nurse was very helpful and understanding of my pain, and offered a bit of a better explanation after the doctor left. Second time was for head-pounding, visual impairment and dizziness/disorientation. Was greeted by the same doctor I saw last time, almost a year prior, and when she asked me to explain my symptoms, she kept stopping me telling me to "stay on track" when I was literally just listing my symptoms. I was having a pounding headache, body aches, dizziness, and shaky vision, but she only wanted to hear about the headache. She then goes to my chart and begins to list off every mental disorder I've been diagnosed with, looks back at me and says she thinks it's stress related. I should have got up and left right then but I didn't. They then gave me an IV cocktail for my pain that they said was going to make me "a little relaxed". They administered it and then left. I don't know what it was, but it made me feel incredibly unwell and panicky. I pressed the call button and explained to the nurse that I wasn't feeling well after whatever they gave me, and she looked at me like I had 3 heads and said "it's just saline." I was completely shocked. How they did not have record of what they just administered was beyond me. I asked to be discharged immediately. No tests were done except a basic metabolic panel and I had been there for hours. Since moving out of Lititz, I've gone to the new Penn State Health off Harrisburg Pike, and was treated so much better. They were compassionate, and actually showed a genuine desire to figure out what was wrong. UPMC will tell you it's stress and send you home to get another bed open.
Medical gaslighting from doctors, having a person with a stomach virus take priority over me having a possible brain bleed, front desk ladies on cell phones and couldn’t be bothered to help you when asked. I urge everyone to please make the trip to the Lancaster General Hospital if you need to go to a hospital. This place is very dangerous and can only handle limited “emergencies”. The only thing this place had was very cool and sweet nurses which I can appreciate but doesn’t matter when everything else is this alarming.
This ER is HORRIBLE. I already created a review explaining my experience here and they took it down! 😤 not sitting here and writing it all again, but do what you wish with that information and more importantly GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! (Unless you enjoy waiting for hours, rude doctors & nurses, just to be told “you’re fine cause you look fine” & have to go home and work it out yourself)
