List of Andrew Richards's Reviews
He gave me back my life after Crohns surgery. I can now eat what I want and no ostomy! Very patient oriented and great bedside manner! Highly recommended!
I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Richards. I had a great deal of anxiety about seeing a rectal surgeon and of course having any kind of procedure done. I found that my fears were not necessary. Both Dr. Richards and the staff were very caring and understanding even when I called with more questions about my upcoming procedure. Dr. Richards was extremely compassionate and also has a wonderful sense of humor that puts you at ease. If you have any need for rectal surgery he is your guy!
After battling cervical cancer, my radiation treatments caused damage to my colon creating a blockage, Dr Richards took the time to explain I needed for a ileostomy surgery which would hopefully only be 12 weeks then he could do a 2nd surgery to reverse the ileostomy! He answered our questions with ease! This Dr. gave me my life back and as he stated my ileostomy surgery was 3/9/20 and my reversal was done on 05/27/20 Thank you Dr Richards for all you did! We are lucky to have a Dr in the Harrisburg area like you! I will recommend you to anyone who needs a surgeon like you!
Dr Andrew Richards is a 5 Star Doctor and a 5 Star Human Being. He's extraordinary; He's very special. I'd have to say one in a million. Truly.I highly recommend him. He, his partners, and lovely staff are the absolute best. From my heart, I thank you.Thank you. Please note: I've been a patient since 1997.
Dr. Richards is an excellent Colorectal MD and surgeon. I was under his care for newrly 20 years, all interactions excellent. Now the not-so-good part. Recently, Dr. Richards practice was purchased by UPMC when they bought Pinnacle Health. At my most recent visit, Dr. Richards dropped me like a hot potato, as UPMC apparently refuses patients not in the UPMC/Pinnacle network. My engagement with them started when they were a private practice. After 20 years, two major surgeries, and numerous follow-ups, seems pretty cold to be dropped like this. I would never have thought Andy Richards would knuckle under to such, but I guess the great UPMC God has omiipotence even with him.
A 3 MIN REVIEW TO HELP YOU MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE (READ IT)Let’s face it – getting older isn’t ideal but here' my experience resolving an issue.Mid-40’s male, battling Diverticula’s for 2 years (2 ER visits) that developed into a Fistula. Asked a family medical physician with 30 yrs exp. what to do, how to handle and any recommendations. She advised not to waste time w/ options found online and if I wanted to further discuss with the best for my case, see Dr Richards. We scheduled an initial appt that went well, had a few more questions and met with him a second time. He answered the 101 questions that we had, with Zero persuasion for surgery. After some deliberation, I felt comfortable with moving forward with Colon Reconstruction Surgery. When selecting a day for surgery, he had a family vacation already planned but requested that we have the surgery in advance to ensure that he was local incase something came-about afterwards. Not a “Surgeries done, good luck, I’m heading on vacation”. If there was an issue afterwards, he would be around to help a nice feel-good.Day of surgery, arrived early AM– greeted by Dr Richards in the surgery room that took appx 3 hours. Day 1-3 in hospital = the worst (weak/light headed, Pain, no rest = absolutely miserable). Day 4 woke up, and miraculously felt GREAT and was released to go home. 3 Days later, follow up appt at his office – removed catheter and onto Life I Go (I was a rare case how quickly I recovered). Every case is different, if you have questions and need a honest answer - see Dr Richards. He has a wealth of knowledge and very personable! He did note that there was a 1% chance of future colon issues (a very comforting percentile).Office Staff: 100% Professionals too-5 months removed from surgery – no issues/no pain!GL
Well trained, compassionate provider with excellent bedside manner! Knows how to put his patients at ease with a good balance of humor and seriousness.
I couldn't recommend him highly enough. He's a 5 Star Doctor & a 5 Star Human Being. He's definitely a rare breed. You will find no one better. Extraordinary person & Doctor. The absolute best.
Dr. Richards is a fantastic physician!! He is very caring and listen to your concerns. I Was told I would need a colostomy bag. After reading my medical records and seeing me. That man made me feel new! I DID NOT NEED A BAG! It was a total simple surgery that would have turned into a Disaster if I was not recommended from a friend. I want to thank this man Bc I have not had any problems for over 5 yrs!!! He made my life a positive one!! Thanks again Dr Richards. Your the BEST!!
Dr Richards performed an illeostomy on me in 2017. Great bedside manners. No issues with surgery.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
