The girl at the front desk was super sweet and the nurse who took me back and started the exam made me feel really comfortable. I think her name was Monica. She was great. And then Dr. Isaacson was so nice and thorough and answered all of my questions patiently. Great experience!
I never leave reviews but I felt this experience deserved to get one. I took my 5 year daughter who has Special Needs to the PEDIATRIC ophthalmologist for an eye exam. She’s never had her eyes checked by an ophthalmologist before and I was told she has astigmatism. She did very well, all things considered for the beginning of the exam - identifying shapes and letters. She then had to have her eyes dilated. Of course, she carried on and threw a fit, cried and was extremely scared. The staff was very impatient with her and I and after about 10 minutes of trying to convince her and calm her down, the assistant left to get the Dr. Dr. Maryam Hajouni, came in and explained a few options. We could take drops home and attempt ourselves and bring her back in with her eyes dilated or we could sedate her with risks (wow, to dilate eyes?). So we gave it another shot, I held her down (my daughter is very strong) the assistant was standing there and the Dr put the drops in her eyes. When I asked if she got them in, her response was snooty and rude… “well, we will wait and see”. My daughter completed the eye exam and did very well, she was no longer scared. The Dr gives me the report… barely and just says it’s “minor”. But then proceeded to tell/ask me about my daughter needing to follow up with her neuropsychiatrist for her behavioral health. Again, my daughter has diagnoses but we use AHN for her care because UPMC had an 11 month wait to see a Specialist. I thought I was at a Pediatric Eye Doctor. I felt attacked/judged by the Dr for my child’s behavior/mental health and I have a hard time believing that all 5 year olds cooperate perfectly when getting their eyes dilated. It’s like she never dealt with a child before and her snooping around my child’s medical records and attempting to coach me on what my daughter needs OUTSIDE of eye care is completely unacceptable to me. It was none of her business what we do with our daughter. Her after visit summary was rude, also. Anyway, I feel this doctor needs to stay in her lane and worry about her profession. Very unprofessional and impatient. I will not return to this Doctor and am tempted to switch all of my child’s medical care to AHN, like I did for myself.
The staff and doctors are wonderful; this rating is simply because I waited almost 1.5 hours to be seen.
First off the reception staff is wonderful. BUT...the wait after you arrive is ridiculous.
The residents and attendings don't investigate the chief complaint. I went to the Presby ER the day after memorial day, a Tuesday for excessive fluid all over my body including my face, trouble breathing, tingling and numbness in my face, legs, feet and ankles. I explained I had the same problem in 2018 and it was related to my gastric bypass surgery. The ER tested, my heart, lungs, did an ultrasound of my right leg looking for blood clots, and they did blood work to check other things in my body. I kept saying it was my gut and no one cared enough to check my gut. From the fluid retention my blood pressure spiked up to 186/92 causing a horrible headache. Long story short the resident wasn't even going to give me lasix for home. knowing that I may not be able to see my PCP the next day. Because they found my case non-emergent, so I was going to be sent home visibly swollen all over from fluid retention which was causing my blood pressure to spike up with nothing, I could have had a stroke. Thank goodness the nurse, Michael advocated for me to get lasix. The resident came back with a script for lasix. I was able to get an appointment with my PCPs office Thursday, two days later. I saw a resident he ordered, ultrasound of my liver, and right kidney nothing for my chief complaint my gut. This is not the first time UPMC doctors didn't listen to anything I stated was causing my health issues. I am an obese Black, older female and the residents, attendings, including my PCP are white. I'm beginning to think it's the color of my skin that's the problem. I worked for University of Pittsburgh Medical School for 24 years so I know a few things about medicine and medical terminology. I know about medical students, residents, attendings and from what I've seen over time they are mostly white more often male and they don't want to listen to a Black person. And I am not basing this on one incident. I've had three major health issues including my current health complaints that have not been addressed immediately. I tell them what's going on with me and they ignore everything I said. So right now the only reason I use UPMC is because that's where my insurance makes me go.
I am writing this response here because their Chautauqua branch hides and does not allow reviews because of the awful treatment they give. UPMC abusing their patients as is but even worse is abusing someone who just made an attempt on their life. Not only did they abuse her while so fragile, but they lied to her and her family every step of the way. I spent two days in a lock box with her helping to better her mental health. We were talking about her crisis plan and getting her scheduled with a team for when she would be released. They decided to transfer this scared and traumatized lady two hours away from her family even after the entire family said she cannot go or it WILL tank her mental health again. As her family was the ones actually taking care of her. We took her to the hospital thinking they would help her. They did not care the trauma they were creating and I just watched them wheel her away like a prisoner. All because they didn’t want her sitting in her room until a provider could be with her. If you want emergency mental health help, UPMC is NOT the place. You’re mental health doesn’t actually matter to them.
From day 1 UPMC has been nothing but evil cut-throat money-mongers. It’s almost as if they TRY to hire the most inept apathetic drs and staff. It takes about 45 mi. to an hour to get in contact with the front desk and I’ve never even been able to speak to a dr aka zombies with degrees. One of my current TWO drs just got me kicked off my insurance!! Down with UPMC!! If you think these people care one iota about you then you are deader than wrong—in fact, if you’re a patient of UPMC you likely are already dead!! If you’re thinking of switching to UPMC please please please do yourself a life saving favor and STAY AWAY!
An $1100 bill after insurance, just to be seen for 30 seconds by a curt doctor and be misdiagnosed. No. Every experience here has been awful, take yourselves to Hershey and see a real professional.
Physicians Assistant (nathan figart) writing me harassing/transphobic/homophobic messages on instagram. Someone like this should not be employed AT A HOSPITAL!!!!!! DISGUSTING!
UPMC is the worst health care provider ever!!!! 1. The nurse did NOT know how to take a BP. My BP is NOT 80/40, really? 2. My prescription was denied w/o explication. When I called they said I was NOT a patient, my next appointment was in October! 3. Then my prescription was sent to the state of NY??? I have NEVER had a prescription filled nor did I ever received treatment in NY! 4. Now they will not return my phone call! You can NOT make this **** up! SO SAD OUR HEALTH CARE HAS COME TO THIS!!!!! If you are in the Mechanicsburg area stay away from UPMC!!!!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
