Absolutely AWFUL experience. Dr. Schmalbach performed a neck discectomy on me a few years ago, and left me with many complications including numbness in my face and constant shoulder pain. This Dr. discharged me as a patient as soon as I began speaking up about my complications, which was absolutely horrendous. Please trust my word and DO NOT use this doctor at all costs!!

Under NO circumstances would I recommend Dr. Schmalbach as a surgeon. She is an absolute nightmare to work with!!! She has left me with multiple post-surgery complications including permanent in my face numbness, excruciating back pain and now REFUSES to see me. When bringing these issues to Dr. Schmalbach's attention directly after surgery, she told me "this had nothing to do with her surgery" which was not true. I then received a letter in the mail discharging me as a patient and that she would no longer be responding to my phone calls or messages!! She will take no responsibility for anything that may go wrong while under her "care"!! I could write pages and pages of all of the horrors I've gone through with this doctor, but unfortunately I don't have the room here to do so. Please just take my word for it and find ANY OTHER DOCTOR to work with before letting this absolutely horrid person operate on you!!

Dr.schmalbach is a great doctor I had a surgery on January 8th and I feel really good .she explain everything to me Shes friendly and very professional. She's a wonderful doctor. God bless her.

Terrible bedside manner. Failed to remove bulk of cancer that was later removed by a more skilled surgeon. Awful post-surgical recommendations of radiation therapy for medullary thyroid cancer. Displayed visible anger by desire to seek a second opinion. Overall, I would NEVER recommend this surgeon to anyone.

Dr schambach removed 10 lbs of tumors from my neck at UAB hospital she is a great doctor. If I have any tumors again I will go see her. A doctor in 2007 put infuse in my neck what cause my cancer.

Dr. Schmalbach was an absolute pleasure. She helped put me at ease of my worries regarding a lump in my neck. Very courteous and professional. I would not hesitate to go back to her if needed.
