Charles P. Bongiorno's Online Review Report Card

I saw Charles Bongiorno when I was having symptoms suggestive of colon issues. He performed a colonoscopy and put me on the first line of treatment for ulcerative colitis. I started to experience increasingly severe pain after starting the medication. He minimized my concerns that it could be related to the medication. I ended up in the emergency room with pancreatitis caused by an allergic reaction to the medication. I also had an uncomfortable office visit with him where he felt it appropriate to conduct a "breast exam". I was confused at the time (what do my breasts have to do with my colon? ) and I have never forgotten it. I was a Temple PhD student at the time. Indeed, never again.

He was my first GI Doctor I went to when I developed unusual GI symptoms. He told me I was too young and skinny to be sick and that I was making it up. Once we got tests indicating neurological dysfunction he said I would never know what caused it. I stopped going to GIs after my terrible experience and it took seeing a hematologist ten years later to discover I had untreated celiac disease. I’m surprised a GI wouldn’t check for that but he did multiple invasive tests. I suffered for ten years due in large part to him and his inability and refusal to help. I completely lost my health, developed over 30 chronic symptoms, developed vitamin deficiencies, and crippling anemia & chronic fatigue due to his lack of expertise. Don’t trust him with your health. Find a doctor who listens to you and believes you.

I saw Dr. Bongiorno before my colonoscopy. I had done diligent research and saw he had positive reviews. Dr. Bongiorno was VERY inappropriate. He spoke into his tape recorder: " I have a *very* attractive young female here." He then put his hand down underneath my underwear and felt around and up under my bra. He made me promise to come back. I felt completely violated and it was a very, very, very inappropriate and an uncomfortable situation. I was a Temple student. I hope no one else had this experience and he loses his license soon. I am in shock that happened to me. There was no one else in the room besides him. Never again.

This doctor does not return phone calls. Shouldn't have to call patient advocacy to get a call back.

I would never recommend this doctor. Refused to answer calls while I was sick and under his care.

I loved him. Miss him dearly. He saved my life. So caring. In more ways then one. I had it hard not much money plus. So sick with terrible chrons attack . He was only one who go me to take my test I refused I had a very bad experience with another doc. Chipper. And knew what was wrong. Understanding and listened to me. Much more. I was and still am heartbroken he is not in jersey. . Hegave me samples. Tons lol. Because my insurance would not cover. Just a awesome doc. And a Man. My sister I refer to and she loved him too when she saw how good he was to me. I loved the fact. He told me. To educate my self on my chrons.

This doctor is not only warm and kind, but he is thorough and a superb diagnostician. He leaves no stone unturned. My 22-year-old daughter presented with nausea, ,severe stomach pain, and intestinal discomfort. She also has severe Illness Anxiety. He took her symptoms seriously and ordered extensive diagnostic tests, understanding that someone with Illness Anxiety can most certainly have a physical illness. He also took her anxiety seriously, understanding that it is a legitimate disorder in and of itself--a quite debilitating one. She has one more test to rule out an organic illness. His sense of humor and delightful personality put her at ease.

Best GI Dr, I've seen and have seen a lot

I have a chronic bowel disorder and have suffered for 33 years. This doctor not only listened to my every word, but found my problem,and expertly treated me. I have celiac disease and saw many other gi physicians, who told me I was either crazy or had irritable bowel syndrome.He treated me respectfully and like family.I saw him at the new temple gi office in rittenhouse square.

Simply put I cried when I heard he was leaving Umdnj som for temple university. Realize no one else could make the diagnosis of my Crohns bowel disease and he really listens in the office.
