I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Emmie Chen of Fox Chase Cancer Center. She has helped my mother tremendously with her psychiatric problems and for that, I am very grateful. Dr. Chen is a marvelous physician but much more than that, she is a kind, warm and compassionate person.

I have been seeing Dr. Chen for approximately 3 years ever since my diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer. I thank God I have a physician of Dr. Chen’s caliber to help me, treat me and guide/ mentor me. I was absolutely devastated by my cancer diagnosis, which was Ovarian Stage 3c. At first I was frantic about the potential for me to go into remission and beat this disease. The statistics were not encouraging. Then the enormity of my situation struck and I gave up. Mentally I was withdrawn with my family; didn’t want to talk to friends and just wanted to be left alone. Here is where Dr Chen came in. She helped me to begin focusing on things I could control; those aspects of my life that I could manipulate & control. Over time, Dr Chen helped me to change my outlook on my treatment and my prognosis and focusing on the here and now. Not what could have been and why I had cancer and she helped me to stop projecting the worst case scenario in terms of remission or lack there of. Dr.Chen is a patient listener. She is compassionate and caring. I can always count on her to help me stay realistic and fact based. When I get carried away with my concerns, she gently but firmly brings me back to reality and makes me listen to reason. Not by force but by compassion. Dr.Chen is an excellent partner in my cancer battle. I would recommend her to anyone.

I have been seeing Emmie for a number of years since recovering from stage four base of the tung cancer. First I will say you are not cured as being cured and recovered from other forms of surgery or dreatments that are in the past and return to a normal life. The shock of the diagnoses is just the beginning of a life changing event for you and your family the rest of your life is altered in many different ways and my personal feeling Psychiatry after recovery is much a part or more than the physical treatment as radiation and chemotherpy and the tremendous effect on your care takers and family they have to start excepting you as you are not as you were because you also alter their lives for ever. Each Recovery from extensive cancer treatments is not the same for everyone that experience it, they are different but everyone is changed to different degrees and joined an exclusive club that needs no more members. I see Emmie on a regular basis and she has done wonders in helping me understand my emotions ,fears and thoughts helping me considerably with my emotional state which in turns makes it much easier for me to ACCEPT the circumstances that I will live with for the rest of my life and and adjusting to your social life. To have her as a understanding, non judge mental support system is a necessity for a better recovery. She has helped me and I,m sure without her help I would not be the person I am.
