I very unexpectedly learned of a mass in my left kidney which was malignant. I got an appointment with Dr. Marc Smaldone immediately. He was great! He explained what was happening and my options for solution and made himself personally available to answer questions and alleviate any concerns. Within 10 days of my initial visit, I was having surgery at Foxchase Cancer Center for a Nephrectomy to remove the malignant kidney. All went well and I highly recommend this Dr Smaldone.

I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer in April of 2023. And I found Dr Smaldone after getting 3 second opinions and collecting a lot of information on my own. Immediately after meeting him, my wife and I didn't want to look any further he was the doctor we felt most confident and comfortable with. Having had testicular cancer and an abdominal hernia 30 years ago, along with obesity and mesh, Dr Smaldone didn't have many options. He explained to me how he would approach an Open Radical Prostatectomy surgery. He really took the time to answer every question and concern we had. He gave us his cell phone number to text if I ever had a question or concern. I did text him two separate times and he answered immediately. This completely amazed me and I knew this doctor absolutely cared and was passionate about his patients. On a surgery day I would normally be really stressed out, not this time. I was so relaxed and confident with my surgeon I didn't need anything to calm me down before hand. Got wheeled into the operating room and Dr Smaldone asked what music I'd like to listen too. I told him anything Grateful Dead. Then I heard Scarlett Begonias and off I went to sleep. Woke up after surgery groggy but ok. Next day Dr Smaldone came into my room and explained everything he did during surgery. I was very relieved to hear his results. Days following were extremely easy for me. My pain level was minimal and was sent home 2 days after admission with instructions and how to care for myself while recovering. I had two follow-up appointments week 1 and week 2 after surgery. On the second visit we met with Dr Smaldone and he explained the pathology report to me and what to expect down the road in my recovery. It's been 3 weeks now since surgery. I feel great and following the protocol in my recovery process. I'm very pleased and extremely happy with my recovery. The stress and worry of my diagnosis has been lifted and I'm confident moving forward knowing Dr Smaldone has a close eye on my case. After being diagnosed with prostate cancer and doing homework on local and non-local treatment options, finding Dr. Smaldone and the team at Fox Chase became an obvious choice for care. From the first visit, time, compassion, thoroughness and were given top priority. Dr. Smaldone's experience and knowledge were immediately clear. He is one of the top cancer surgeons in the region in both skill and number of procedures done annually - - key considerations when looking for a surgeon. At Fox Chase, they take a team approach, and each patient is reviewed by a cross disciplinary teams of specialists. I found this to be different from many other 'big name' centers that often operate in a more siloed approach. From my first contact with Dr. Smaldone and his team, without exception, everyone on is exceptional and are angels. They genuinely care and share great compassion at every interaction starting in the office, through the surgery, hospital stay and the follow-up visits. I cannot say enough good about how well they care for patients. Dr Smaldone was closely engaged throughout the entire process. Marc Smaldone was a wonderful Doctor who took good care of me and my problem. Also his secretary, Christina and his nurse Kathleen were also very helpful.

I was referred to Dr. Smaldone when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He put my mind at ease from the very first appointment we had with him. He explained all our options and even gave me his cell # to contact him with any questions. I did in fact text him before my surgery and he responded within minutes. His team is awesome too. Kathleen (RN) was great explaining some of the things I could do to make my recovery better. She was kind and pleasant every time I saw her. Christina (admin) is great too. Every time I emailed or called her with a question, she responded almost immediately. Dr. Smaldone and his entire team provided outstanding care during a very stressful time for me and my family. I would highly recommend them!

From my husband, Ron Gordon: I am fortunate enough to develop bladder cancer at a time when medical science, in the hands of a skilled practitioner such as Dr Smaldone, let me lead a normal life. In the beginning, Dr Smaldone told me not to worry because he had a plan for me. He was right. Through 2 surgeries and numerous treatments, he was always attentive, concerned and extraordinarily competent. He performed my prostatectomy 7 years ago, and I found him to be very thorough and highly experienced. Great bedside manner and compassion. Years after my surgery he always responded to questions I had via text messages. I highly recommend Dr. Smaldone.
