Penn Dermatology Pennsylvania Hospital's Online Review Report Card

I came here because I had a concern and a request. This is located at the Perlman Center, which is very, very busy. The valet is crazy! I suggest self park. Wow! check-in was quick! The desk person was nice. Dr. Zhou was great. She was engaging and took the time to listen to my concerns. I had two skin tags and a mole removed. Quick and painless. I was in and out in under an hour.

I called late August to book an appointment for skin cancer. After having to answer questions about my race and religion I was told to call back the following day. I called back only to be told that they do not have next years schedule yet so they are unable to book an appointment. I have since booked with another practice which did not racially profile me in order to book an appointment. I also am being seen in a couple of weeks, rather than waiting until 2024 to book

I called this morning to make an appointment. I was told none available but I could call back and see if anything opened. I called another practice down the street and got an appointment in a few weeks. It's out of network but worth the extra copay dollars to avoid Penn Derm's inconvenience.

Was referred to them last year for treatment of Melanoma And Basal Cell cancer. Excellent doctor and surgeon at that time. At my follow up appointment the dermatologist told me she was going to a different practice in another state. After completing 4 more biopsies she said I should continue seeing my local dermatologist every three month and I should see whoever was seeing her patients in Penn's Pigmented Lesion Group (PLG) every 8 months. When I attempted to make an appointment with someone in PLG they told me they had no direction on who was seeing her old patients and they didn't have any appointments available for a PLG dermatologist. They transferred my call to another dermatologist who they said was helping with some of the PLG patients. I was on hold for a bit and then connected with some women who did not identify herself but was saying something along the lines I could not just see this doctor I needed to see a resident. I wasn't really clear on all she said because when I was connected she was already speaking. Not knowing what she was talking about and not knowing what the person who transferred the call had told them I attempted to explain my situation but she interrupted me with a very curt statement, we have protocols. I was taken aback by her attitude and just said I don't know who I am supposed to see. She didn't attempt to help me so I finally hung up. I did submit the client relations report that day (6/30). I got the standard email that they care and to allow 3 business days for a response. I will not hold my breath waiting. While my dermatologist does a good visual examination he doesn't use the same tools as they do at PLG. I say this because one month after I saw my local dermatologist last year I had the above appointment where 4 biopsies were done and 2 of them required surgical removal. I am sorry but I feel having a history of Melanoma and Basal Cell should be taken seriously by the medical professionals obviously they do not feel the same at Perelman. While I really like my surgeon who completed my Melanoma surgery I have no faith in the dermatology Department.

Been going to Penn dermatology for some time now and it's always the same great experience. Dermatologist is amazing. She gets right to the point. There isn't a lot of time wasted like in other practices. The admin team is always pleasant and helpful. Overall great practice and would def recommend.

Dear Penn Medicine, You have 5 dermatology locations and none of your locations are accepting new patients. If the Hippocratic oath says 'do no harm,' failure to have new patient appointments is passively doing a lot of people a lot of harm. Also, your phone tree and scheduling is terrible from an end-user perspective.

I would like to add to my review that UPENN is also racist. When they caused a trouble scar. I received a letter that blamed it on my skin complexation. They write my skin color was the problem. This is American 2020 a doctor should be able to work on poeple with all skin colors and types. Race and skin color should never be an excuse.

I had a doctor appointment for almost a year. The doctor moved and it was a pain for me to get a new appointment. I had an appointment for a small procedure, they changed the appointment, I had the wrong date (the nurse who called had the wrong day too)-I was charged $100. The next appointment got changed three times in a matter of weeks. This is also the place that had an employee taping people undressed.
