Robert B. Penne's Online Review Report Card

Never let him operate until you get a scan! First of two who f*cked up my eye!

Waited 75 minutes at Wills for initial appointment. Actual appointment and examination lasted 8 minutes, with almost no explanation of upcoming surgery. I found the staff to be rude and unresponsive. Had surgery in Philadelphia. Dr. Penne did not speak to me either before or after surgery. Arrived late to surgery, holding up surgical team. My phone call post surgery about a possible complication was returned THREE days later. I am satisfied with the surgical outcome, but this is the worst doctor/patient relationship I have ever had.

The ptosis surgery to remove excess skin on both eyelids was not successfully completed --so stated by the doctor himself. In addition meds that were subscribed post surgery have not been available on the market for over a year!

My opthamologist recommended that I see Dr. Penne about a specific issue. I called the office but was not scheduled for an appointment. I was forwarded to their billing department where I was informed that my insurance was a problem and would not cover the visit. I was told that I would need to put a deposit down. I was confused b/c my spouse saw Dr. Penne about 1 year prior with the same insurance and we had no problems. The office asked where my spouse was examined and they told me that was not possible. I called my insurance company and they assured me the visit would be covered. They urged me to call the office and the insurance company would clarify. Dr. Penne's staff refused to discuss the issue b/c they had no idea how the visit would be coded. At the urging of my opthamologist, I tried again, this time I was referred to Char. She told me that the visit would not be covered and that I just needed to be aware of it. She forwarded me to the front desk to make an appointment. They have never returned my call. I was stunned at the rude treatment of his office. I read some reviews online and learned this is not unusual. What really gave me pause were two reviews which indicated when patients discussed with Dr. Penne, he was not responsive. I am going elsewhere.

Dr. Penne is a talented caring professional eye surgeon

Dr. P. is an excellent eye surgeon. Unfortunately, I had a scary encounter with his receptionist, who did not offer me any assistance when I called with a problem after just having had surgery, and the doctor was out-of-the-office. When I brought this to the doctor's attention, he refused to address my complaint because I did not take down the receptionist's name. It's nice to know that a doctor will side with his receptionist instead of his patient! But, I have learned an important lesson, do not trust anyone in a doctor's office except the doctor!

Doctor didn't seem to care about my complaints regarding the hospital and his office.
