I had scheduled an appointment with Dr. Bailey and had to fly across the country for the . That was my choice because I wanted the best of care. Unfortunately, I had an awful experience. I arrived for my appointment to find out that Dr. Bailey was unable to make it into the office. The practice never contacted me regarding the situation. I could have made other arrangements. Very inconsiderate and disrespectful to me & other patients. There was another patient who was very upset & who traveled from another state as well for care. Total disregard for the importance of my time. Thomas Jefferson University and Wills Eye Hospital is better than this.

I recently scheduled an appointment to see Dr. Bailey for an eye condition which I was told was his specialty. I work in healthcare and was recommended to Dr. Bailey by a couple of medical colleagues. I also grew up in Philadelphia and was very familiar with Wills Eye Hospital and its reputation. I currently live outside the state of Pennsylvania and had to travel distance for the appointment. That was a choice I made because I wanted to best of care. Unfortunately, Wills Eye Hospital did not live up to its reputation based upon the experience I encountered. Prior to my appointment, I called the practice multiple times to confirm the date and time, but also to obtain instructions once I arrive at the hospital at 9th and Walnut Streets. As instructed by the voice mail system at his practice, I left a message along with my cell number so someone could call me back at their convenience. Over a period of a couple weeks prior to my arrival, I called multiple times without ever receiving a response or returned phone call from anyone from Dr. Bailey’s practice.On the date of my appointment, I arrived early so I would be able to complete the registration process quickly. When I walked up to the counter, I was asked by the person at the front desk did I have an appointment. I told her I was scheduled to see Dr. Bailey. She proceeded to tell me that Dr. Bailey was unable to make it to the hospital that morning. She told me his practice said they tried to call me that morning, even though there was not a record of a missed call on my cell. I told her I never had received a call from anyone from his practice. I asked what number did they dial and she had no idea. While I was at the front desk, there was another person, not far from me, very upset and on the phone. The front desk person advised me that the other person on the phone was speaking to someone at Dr. Bailey’s practice for a similar situation. The other person also had a scheduled appointment with Dr. Bailey and was never notified that he was unable to make it into the hospital that morning. They too drove from another state to see Dr. Bailey and were very upset about not being notified of his absence.I felt a sense of arrogance by the individuals in that practice. They cared less that Dr. Bailey didn’t show and inconvenienced all the patients who were scheduled to see him that morning. It seemed obvious that the patient’s time was unimportant. I certainly beg to differ because my time is just as important to me as Dr. Bailey would consider his time. In order to see him I had to take off from work at a hospital which eventually was a waisted day. The actions of his practice were inconsiderate, selfish, and thoughtless. What I found surprising is during a time when hospitals and healthcare workers are so focused on service excellence and quality patient care, that my experience at Wills Eye Hospital that morning was a total failure with regards to service excellence. No one owned it or was accountable. Everyone seemed to have an “Oh well” attitude. I even tried to contact the CEO of Wills Eye and left a message since he was not available and have not received a phone call from the gentleman.Thomas Jefferson University and Wills Eye hospital have many incredible physicians who are exceptional clinical providers within their respective areas of specialty. There are options for patients but that should not overshadow the expectations patient have for receiving quality care and being treated with dignity, regardless of the health system. I’m not placing blame on Dr. Bailey, but it is the responsibility of the practice manager to own this situation. I would like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt that this situation was a “one off”, but even still, they dropped the ball. I’m quite sure everyone in that practice, including Dr. Bailey, would have felt the same way I felt that morning, in addition to the other patients who were also slighted. Thomas Jefferson University and Wills Eye Hospital are better than this.

Dr. Bailey and the entire office and hospital staff were wonderful!! Every appointment was on time, office staff were always happy and helpful. The surgery went perfectly, Passavant and all staff wonderful. Can't say enough!

Dr. Bailey is indeed the best. He did my dad's cataract surgery and was just wonderful. Very caring, thorough, and the BEST. My mom had some eye complaints, and he is always there for her. I just cannot say enough great things about Dr. Bailey. His office staff is equally outstanding.

Dr. Bailey didn't know me from Adam, and I'm a Medicare patient, yet he devoted himself, his time, and his staff to my demanding needs, as if I were a personal friend or family member. I left his care in awe - impressed and grateful. Cataract surgery takes 10-15 minutes. After my original Wills physician with a fancy Princeton address kept putting off my surgery until my retiring retina specialist whispered, "Mark, your doctor has waited too long. He's too conservative. You better get that cataract out, or you're going to suffer complications," I found Dr. Bailey. He confirmed I needed to get it out, and it would be difficult. My surgery took over an hour. Dr. Bailey backed up his entire day of surgeries that day and went home late to his family, all for a man he never met and could not bill for the extra time in which he could have done 4 or 5 other surgeries, and he did the surgery himself; not an intern or resident was present.

Caring, precise and an excellent physician. I always recommend Dr. Bailey. Staff is well chosen, providing an overall awesome experience.

Dr Bailey performed cataract surgery and gave me a new lease on life. Not only was he a superb surgeon he was kind and answered all my questions.His staff is fantastic and I thank him for letting me see the world again Judith j Bailey

Dr Bailey is the best surgeon to see if you need cataract surgery.Despite of his level of sophistication and expertise he is down to earth and very attentive to the needs of his individual patients .I was deeply impressed by his demeanor and bedside manners. I came to him after a surgery in a different medical location did not give me the outcome I was hoping for.Dr Bailey’s treatment and surgery gave me the vision that I am finally happy with and for that I am forever grateful to him.

I went to this Dr for cataract surgery - he is simply the best. Caring, spent time with me explaining what he would be doing, all risks and did a great job on the surgeries (one per eye). His office is also organized - they run on time and I did not end up waiting.

Dr Bailey is a great surgeon and a great doctor. I owe my great vision to him. A previous surgery elsewhere was mediocre .His surgery brought me to a perfect vision for both reading and distance. I am forever grateful!
