For years I saw Dr. Cantarella for my yearly check up, mostly because she was the one with available appointments. When I began to express concerns and share symptoms of a possible prolapsed uterus, she was dismissive and condescending. I always left the appointments feeling like I was overreacting and what I was experiencing was only normal. When I was scheduled to have a double mastectomy and then a hysterectomy I went to have my IUD removed by Dr. Cantarella. Which would mean that I would start having regular periods again until my surgery. When I again voiced concerns about a possible prolapsed uterus and struggle to keep a tampon in place, she suggested, while laughing, that I could try wedging two tampons in there. I felt humiliated. Afterwards, in preparation for surgery with Pennsylvania Hospital Doctors, my diagnostic images showed that I not only had a prolapsed uterus but also that my bladder and small bowel where where abnormally descended in my pelvic area.

Dr. Cantarella is beyond condescending. I went in after an ER doctor noticed something abnormal with my uterus in a bedside ultrasound, and told me to make an immediate appointment with a gynecologist. Dr. Cantarella looked at other ultrasound images from over six months ago in my file & concluded nothing was wrong with my uterus. She refused to do a new pelvic exam, saying it wouldn't tell her anything. I had to beg for a referral for a new ultrasound. She was exceedingly rude and dismissive.

She made me at ease no matter what popped up during my pregnancy. She was honest and informative about each issue, without alarming me. The way she presents things makes you feel like you're in control of your care.It's really rare to find a doctor that not only listens to you, but remembers what you said and tailors her care to your preferences. I hope she goes into teaching one day so we get more doctors like her.
