List of Peter Carlos Gerszten's Reviews
WORST. Been waiting for an appointment with this doctor for several months, then the day before my appointment they tell me not to come because the doctor doesn't perform coccyx surgeries. Both this doctor and physician assistant (Erin Thomson) are incompetent and do not care about anyone but themselves. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR. Would give a 0 rating if I could.
Can sympathize with some of the other reviews here regarding abandonment and not being able to reach the doctor, especially when the patient needs an explanation. My father had a microdiscectomy procedure for his herniated disc, which caused sciatica pain. Dr. Gerszten finished and said it was done successfully. Day 2 into recovery and my father was in more excruciating pain than prior to the surgery, which made no sense. If there was a re-herniation, how did it happen 2 days post-op and how was the pain significantly worse than before the microdiscectomy? He was rushed into the ED, suffering in pain the entire time, and it took an unbearable amount of time for results & explanations to trickle in. The 2nd microdiscectomy went well, but when asked why this all happened again in the first place, Dr. Gerszten vaguely stated “there could be a number of reasons”, not giving clear answers. So now we can only guess if it was the doctor’s fault or if by some unbelievable chance there was a re-herniation right after surgery.
They arent perfect ppl. They make mistakes too theyre only human but just please get many many opinions before deciding on surgey no matter what the doctors say. They arent always right and it could make things alot worse. Im a patient who had surgery with dr gertszen. Very kind hearted guy and team but my outcome has not been good. Iv waited 8 months to write this review just cause it is a long healing journey and wanted to give it time but time has not been good. Its been the hardest 8 months of my life and things have not gotten better. Nothing personal against the doctor or his PAs cause theyre nice ppl but they arent perfect and also make mistakes. Just theyre mistakes could change your whole life for the better or for the worst as in my case.
I've seen Dr. Gerszten for about 10 yrs and he was my 2nd opinion on the beginning and the only one that could help due to my being 30 at the time. He's done 2 spinal fusions & 3 other surgeries. I respect Dr. Gerszten as he's always very straight with you & has excellent bedside manners. His staff was very caring too and were prompt in returning my calls as well. I no longer live near PA unfortunately but if I could drive there for visits I would do so.
As all previous reviews have stated “you will be abandoned” , they are 100 % accurate. You will be abandoned !!! I regret the day I ever agreed to surgery, TWICE. Because I trusted this man. And now, there is no un-doing it, and no guidance. There is no “care team” to help you manage, treat, follow-up, or if surgery failed, as it did in my case, no alternatives offered and your phone calls aren’t even returned. He passes go, collects his few hundred thousand, and that about sums it up. Get a second opinion.
Had a tumor in spinal cord, wonderful doctor would recommend to anyone with tumor issues!
I have been seeing Dr. Gerstzen since 1995, he is excellent!
He did my L-5/S-1fusion about 17 years ago and I haven't had one bit of trouble. Great surgeon and nice guy. I highly recommend him!
I had L4-L5 Laminectomy surgery in 2012. I went for my post surgery checkup and suffered severe pain on my right radiating down my leg. When I talked about this episode I was informed it was part of the healing process. The pain continued and when he was confronted again he informed me the surgery did what it was suppose to do and there was nothing else he could do for me. My final diagnosis was Post Laminectomy Syndrome.....failed surgery!!!!!!!
Dr. Gerszten has completely changed my life. 4 months ago I was a suicidal hunchbacked cripple. Today...I feel like a teenager again! I am 100% pain free with bolt upright posture! My gratitude has brought me to tears. This is the 3rd successful back surgery Dr. Gerszten has performed on me. I have a genetic disorder that's causing severe degenerative disc syndrome. Not only is he a brilliantly talented neurosurgeon, but he has a great way of connecting with you. I really feel like he knows me, remembers me and cares. Fantastic bedside manor. This is the only doctor's office where I easily get a human on the phone and they get back to you immediately. His PA is most attentive, as well. He's also a really cool guy! I got a tattoo that reads: "DOKTOR GERSZTEN'S MONSTER" because I freaking love this guy so much!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
