Upmc Childrens Hospital Of Pittsburgh's Online Review Report Card

Children's was pretty good to us during our stay and most importantly helped my daughter get back on her feet. Was not 100% of getting discharged but seemed to work out. There really needs to be small refrigerators/freezers in each over night room to eliminate any issues. The "PARENT" kitchen did not have a working ice/water machine which was extremely frustrating. If you are staying at Children's over night or longer definitely look into the restaurants and stores nearby. Aldis is about a 20min walk shorter if you have a bike or electric scooter. The cafeteria is a hit or miss. Extremely rude cafeteria workers hard to deal with sometimes. I highly suggest going to one of the local restaurants. There is multiple grocery stores as well.

I wish I could leave no stars! Coming to UPMC children's hospital of Pittsburgh was the worst mistake I made in my life! I lost everything trusting Dr Paul Sazbolcs on 9B in charge of Bone marrow transplant floor. He is the reason my son is dead! He gave my son an umbilical cord blood graph that was mismatched and it failed, I was told my son was going to get bone marrow and when they couldn't find any for him no one told me. That cord blood was the death of my sweet boy! He was stuck in that hospital from Oct 2021 until he passed away February 21 2023 my son came into that hospital walking, eating use of his kidneys , no brain damage able to play his ps4 all that changed After Dr Paul gave him that treatment My son's life was depreciated so much! He was over a 100 Ibs when I bought my son there my boy was 30 pounds when he died! Skin and bones! My son wasn't given a good chance and Dr Paul lied so many times even at my son's autopsy report review he wasn't honest. I traveled from South Carolina was told we were gonna be able to go home in maybe 9 months never made it back home! I had to move here no help with a funeral for my son. No help going back home just stuck to pick up all the pieces on my own please beware of what Dr you trust I thought I was leading my son to a better life and I lead him to Death I was so blind and will regret it for the rest of my life! I do want to say that the ICU team kept my son alive as long as they could and gave me a little more time with him, Dr Paul gave my son that cord blood and 2 months later my son was in the ICU fighting for his life, everytime he got better and we were sent back to 9B my son would decline and we always had to go back to the ICU in and out too many times to count it was horrible, my boy was really sick after his transplant because it wasn't what he was supposed to have, obviously because he is dead!!! If you have a child with short Telemere syndrome with DKC go elsewhere they do not know how to treat it properly and cord blood will be the death of your child or any child with DKC bone marrow is what is best! I don't care who doesn't like it I will never stop speaking the truth for my son!!

My daughter has a few medical issues and has been admitted to the floor a few times. They never give answers and will discharge you home with "well we don't know what's causing it, but how do you feel about going home" We asked for transfers to Cleveland Clinic and were told "no its not life threatening, and upmc won't pay for transport anyway, so we can discharge you and you can drive there if that's what you want" We have been trying to get answers for 1.5 years, and each time they failed us "it's just a sinus infection, kids fall, oh she is really thirsty, maybe it's just something she has. Maybe a gi bug, we are stumped and cant figure out whats causing all her symptoms" Just save you and your kids time and go elsewhere.

Fantastic hospital

I use to think this hospital was amazing. It use to be about patient care now it's all about $$. 6 month plus waits to get in for a appointments. Akron Children's is so much better. I try to go there as much as I can Vs Pittsburgh Children's. But due to UPMC taking over all the health care in the area its so difficult to get second opinions. Our health care needs a overhaul. We need another Children's Hospital because patients are not getting quality care anymore. Maybe take a look at Cleveland Clinic and Akron Children's how they treat patients and families

I don’t like the fact when I come to children hospital that this man name Arthur Stevens yes I ask him for his name because he should be ashamed how he talks to the workers there an the people that has appointments he is so rude …an sercuity had to ash him to keep calm ….please somebody check him this is not good for busy ….🤬🤬🤬🤬

We travelled here from FL so my 20 mo old son could get a life-saving liver transplant. Post-op he has to get labs every Mon & Thur. UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh does not set appointments for labwork; they only do walk-in. My son needs the use of an ultrasound machine to do the job (or at minimum a red light), as he is a hard stick. The lab dept doesn't have any of these tools at their disposal, and therefore have to rely on the hospital's IV team to come in a do it for us. There is only one (1) IV team on duty in this entire hospital! We literally have to sit and wait for them to free up and come do the stick. We have now been waiting for 2 hours!!! In addition the lab dept won't text or call us when IV shows up, so that I can at least push my son around in his stroller while we wait. This is the worst system I have ever dealt with! For a hospital that is as big as this, with as much funding as they have, this is such a poor setup. UPMC should take note from Advent Health Orlando Pediatric Outpatient Services (whom they partner with) where we always are provided with an appointment and the center always has an ultrasound machine on hand. You need to do better UPMC!

Day or night doesn’t matter very extremely long time wait. No doctors. Doesn’t matter regular visit or emergency room long time waiting! I understand adults wait ok. but these are children, children should have a human relationship. it is necessary that more doctors come in for a shift so that the children do not sit for 4-5 hours waiting for their call.

Had an eye appointment at 11 am and 12 pm. They said our doctor was sent to another area because they were over staffed. We waited for 2 hours just to be seen when we were here 45 minutes ahead of our appointment. Why is there scheduling when they can’t follow their own schedule? Great receptionist who was very helpful giving us updates, but the hospital itself was a mess and it is unacceptable. We were accountable making the two hour drive to get here early, it is time that the hospital takes their part of accountability in scheduling and updating their clients. Very unhappy.

My 1star rate is actually for a doctor not the hospital. However, doctors and the staff are what makes or breaks a hospital. DO NOT see Dr Feras Ilyssa! I wouldn't take my dog to him. my son was a patient for abdominal pain, N/V and weight loss. He had multiple testing to try to diagnose his problem. I asked if it could be MALS(median arcuate ligament syndrome) he said, "NO! NO! NO! NO!" I believe he didn't like a woman(and RN) telling him what was wrong with her son. VERY Long story short, my son had an abdominal CT and I was told it was normal-no problems. Come to find out from another dr it wasn't-he needed follow up testing for MALS! Turned out that was exactly what it was and he had to have surgery to correct it. When Dr. Ilyssa found out he called me and first NEVER apologized for missing an abnormal CT and second, during our conversation, admitted he 'didnt know what MALS was-he had to look it up' The whole time of seeing this dr he, in a round about way, told us it was all in my sons head. He 'couldn't believe' antidepressants and anti anxiety meds were not working. I just want others to know by this review that Dr. Ilyssa is not a GI specialist! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PRECIOUS CHILDREN TO HIM!!!
