List of Jessica B. Shuman's Reviews
Dr Shuman is a gifted physician. She exhibits resolve, knowledge, sensitivity and is quick to act to find solutions! I am blessed to have her as my physician and I trust her with complete confidence to keep me healthy. She shows a vested interest in any conversations or issues I may discuss! I would recommend her to anyone who needs a physician who seems to always get it rright!
Dr Shuman is not only an incredible physician but also a caring and wonderful person who cares more about her patients than any Doctor I have ever visited. I met her 3 years ago after another physician in the Geisinger group totally misdiagnosed my symptoms! I found Dr Shuman after I was scared and frustrated with my previous physician . Dr Shuman ordered all new tests and it was immediately obvious she knew exactly what the problem was and started my care within a day. As it turns out this woman, I believe, saved my life. It was a couple weeks before Covid shut down everything, yet Dr Shuman with tremendous resolve, found a way to get appointments and treatment I needed. She is someone I trusted my life with 3 years ago and I cannot imagine my life without her expertise! Dr Shuman is a gifted and talented human being with a bedside manner that is not seen often in many health professionals anymore. Trust her instincts and abilities. She won't let you down!
This woman is an incompetent idiot. She has done so much damage to her patients. Mt Nittany is continuing to employee her….shame on them.
Felt rushed during my visit. Received conflicting answers to my questions between Dr. Shuman and another Dr. Didn't answer questions well.
Dr. Shuman is my regular OBGYN, but also happened to be the doctor at the hospital the night my son was born. I am sorry to hear that people have had negative experiences with her, but I must say I have only had positive ones. She is extremely thorough with her examinations, she takes the time to really listen and provides detailed, but easy to understand answers. I have never felt rushed out of an exam, if anything I leave thinking, “Wow, I wish all doctors listened to me the way Dr. Shuman does.” The delivery of our baby was by no means “easy” or “typical.” However, as our options were dwindling, Dr. Shuman sat down and talked to my husband and me about the remaining options we had available. I was extremely scared to have a cesarean, but she sat with me and calmed me down and handled the situation with such calm. I truly don’t know what I would have done without her. She’s amazing!
Performed an exam on me during my GBS test without explaining anything first or even telling me she was doing the exam, so I did not have the opportunity to give informed consent at all. Not to mention it was painful! Also put measurements in my chart that she did not take and did not give me the information she said she would about my baby’s position. That was only my most recent visit. During my first visit with her I had mentioned slight skin irritation and she automatically went to worst case scenario saying it could be PUPPPs which would lead to a preterm delivery. Turned out to be a normal muscle spasm causing some slight discomfort. I would honestly have her removed from my care team but I’m so close to my due date I’m just going to avoid scheduling with her and am super thankful my husband will be with me during delivery if, God forbid, she is the one on call. I have had a wonderful experience with every other doctor in this practice and would highly recommend them.
Dr. Shuman is awful. Unkind, rushes, doesn't explain anything re: what to expect in terms of treatment, etc. Doesn't ask if you have any questions. Why is she in the patient care field?
I had an appointment with Dr Shuman last week, and I’m still feeling traumatized. She was outright mean and critical. Ultimately I received zero clarification about my possible diagnosis, and left feeling worse than I had when I came in. If you are looking to leave the office on the verge of tears, Dr Shuman is the doctor for you!
If you make an appointment with Mount Nittany Gynecology and you are scheduled with Dr Shuman, RUN THE OTHER WAY! You can expect to be treated like a number as opposed to a human being, rushed, not given explanation about treatment options/what to expect, all the while possessing a critical/judgemental, tinge mean, attitude. I am serious when I say she reminded me of Nurse Ratched, and I can only conclude that her choice of profession was based upon her need to have power over others, and abuse them with it. She has some seriously unresolved issues. Request one of the other physicians!
Dr Shuman took excellent care of me, and her bedside manner is very kind. I think some of these other posters have either unrealistic expectations of healthcare in general, or maybe have a personal vendetta against this doctor. Because my experience with her has been excellent. I saw Dr Shuman for an annual exam as a new patient. She listened to me during the appointment, performed a thorough but gentle exam, and ordered an ultrasound because I mentioned that I had ongoing problems with pelvic pain. The ultrasound revealed a significant problem that required surgery. I consulted with another doctor for a second opinion (as I always do, myself trying to be thorough), who fully agreed with the plan for surgery. I knew I was in good hands going to the OR with Dr Shuman. She performed my complex surgery, and fixed my problem. She also came up with a plan, knowing my medical history, to reduce my risk for GYN cancers in the future. Throughout all of this, Dr Shuman’s bedside manner was wonderful. She answered all of my questions, communicated well with my family during my surgery, and showed me a kindness that is not always seen in surgeons of this caliber! I am so happy I chose Dr Shuman as my physician and surgeon; she is kind, brilliant, caring, and highly skilled.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
