List of Patricia Kao's Reviews
9 years ago I went to the ER with unexplained jaundice and abdominal pain. After inconclusive diagnosis I was referred to DR Kao, who was able to diagnose a rare autoimmune liver disease (PSC). While there is no cure for my condition, Dr Kao has been proactive in managing the symptoms and progression of this disease over the past 9 years. She has always taken the time to answer any questions I have and is very knowledgeable. I have been seen by her in both the Salem Hospital and her Dallas office and have always been treated with respect and have never had to wait for long periods. She is not big on "small talk", but I would recommend her to anybody who needs a competent GI doctor.
I was referred to Dr Kao about 9 years ago when I had an unexplained bout of jaundice and abdominal pain and ended up in ER. Dr Kao was able to quickly diagnose a rare autoimmune-related liver disease that many GI doctors don't find until it has progressed for a long time. She has always spent the time necessary to answer any questions I have about my condition and she is always proactive about ordering all my blood work, ultrasounds, MRCPs biopsies etc. I trust her knowledge and skill and have never experienced any of the complaints others have posted. There is no cure for my disease, but I feel she has helped me greatly to manage it these past years.
This doctor just does not relate to a patient. Perhaps she would be more effective in a research lab away from people.
Was referred by my doctor. Needed an afternoon appointment so had to go to Dallas. I was assigned Dr. Kao. The nurse was a little snotty. And I waited over 20 minutes in the room. That's after waiting 30 minutes in the waiting room. After 20 minutes, I decided I wanted to reschedule, that that appointment wasn't working out for me. I went out to reception which is where the nurse was and asked if I could reschedule for I couldn't wait any long. She got really snotty and said I hadn't waited 30 minutes yet. I told her I didn't want to wait, I will just reschedule. We ended having words and I didn't get to reschedule.
I definitely would not recommend this doctor. I felt she was inexperienced, and she definitely wouldn't listen to me when I explained my symptoms. Never received an actual diagnosis either. Still having gastro issues and wanted to change doctors at the clinic, but was told I couldn't make a change; they like to be consistent.
I DON'T recommend her. She was rude, inconsiderate, and seemed very inexperienced when I saw her. I'd give her zero stars but unfortunately you have to give at least one. Worst doctor I've ever encountered. She doesn't listen to you either when you try and explain something. Just aweful provider period.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
