Paul Akerman's Online Review Report Card

I have been seeing him for many years. He has saved me from an operation that wasn't neccessary. I totally trust him

I have been Dr. Akerman's patient since I moved to RI (20+/-) years ago. Since colon cancer runs in my family I get Colonoscopies (and now Endoscopies) every 3 to 5 years. He and his staff are top notch! He explains everything and answers any questions (and boy do I ask questions, LOL). His P.A. Mary is excellent too. She returns calls quickly, very smart and caring. I have had many procedures done by Dr. Akerman over the years and do highly recommend him to friends and family.

went to Dr. Akerman for at least 4 years and basically learned little from him about my disease, got what little info I could from his NP. Very cold bedside manner ended up leaving the practice because I was so dissatisfied, never felt like he made any improvement to my condition.

My father had an appointment to get a colonoscopy. He went through the excruciating preparation, and when he got to the office for his appointment, the front desk told him Dr. Akerman was not in the office. Apparently, they had tried to reschedule the appt. and left a message ON THE WRONG CELL PHONE. They did not try to get in contact with him to make sure he actually received the information. My dad went through all this trouble to not get the procedure done. This office is highly unorganized!

I was admitted @ Ri hospital. I was having GI problems. Dr. Ackerman explained the procedure to me and reassured me I would be okay. I could feel the God all over him. I became very relaxed and all my anxiousness and fear disappeared !

What happened to this man? He used to be such a competent physician, but in the past five years, I feel like he's become a ghost. He practice is completely de-humanized. If you call, you can NEVER talk to a real person...you must leave a message and then wait several days for a return call (and if you miss it, you're done.) His PA, Mary, needs to work on her bedside manner. More and more, you talk only to her and not to the doctor. I'm not at all happy with this practice anymore.

I was Dr. Akerman's patient for ten years. I had a procedure scheduled and was VERY nervous about it. It got to the point where i had a full blown panic attack the day before. I decided to cancel the procedure until I felt more comfortable and could talk to Dr. Akerman myself. (I only get to leave messages and if I'm LUCKY, his PA, Mary calls me back; I'm not crazy about her.) Today, I get a CERTIFIED LETTER from him firing me as his patient. I'm so upset as I write this. The letter states he is no longer my doctor due to "non-compliance." WTF? I've been his faithful patient for a decade, and this is how he decides to treat me? I'm not a piece of machinery on an assembly line, I'm a HUMAN BEING. I am so hurt and outraged that this is how he chosen to treat a person he has been treating for so long.

Dr. Akerman is the best, for 8 yrs. I had incredible pain and went to see many dr.'s and none of them could tell me what was causing it. I finally went to see Dr. Akerman and with 15 minutes of talking to him and explaining the pain he knew exactly what it was. He has been my Dr. for this problem for 10 yrs. and he is the only one I trust with this. I travel from another state just to see him. He always answers all my questions and explains everything and never makes me feel like I'm bothering him. He is the best of the best!

He couldn't come up with a diagnosis so he gave up on me. He is very intelligent and I had high hopes but he seemed to get frustrated because he couldn't come up with a diagnosis so he refered me back to my primary care doc who sent me to him. He just kept prescribing different meds that made me sicker. I wouldn't reccomend him unless you already have a diagnosis.
