List of Steven Toms's Reviews
I was a healthy and physically fit individual who began to experience illness and odd symptoms for a long time. Walking into urgent care for a headache and walking out learning you have a brain tumor and need to go to the ER immediately is a sobering and scary experience. Dr. Toms was highly recommended by my primary care doctor and many others. I received the BEST care a person could ever ask for. I am fortunate the tumor was benign but it was very large and was an ordeal I never want to experience again! But if I ever did, I'd only want Dr. Toms to treat me. Aside from being a skilled and talented surgeon, he is very kind, patient, and compassionate (and a good sense of humor too!). He is clearly committed to making sure his patients receive the best care and gives his undivided attention when he sees you. His office is very organized and well-run and I could always get in touch with someone if I had a question. They, too, are very kind and patient-focused. I wish all my medical experiences could be like this. I didn't realize how ill and compromised I was until the surgery was over and I started to feel better. He helped me return to a "normal" life and I will always be grateful.
I can not say enough about Dr. Toms, what do you say to someone who saved your life. He is kind, compassionate and honest and has a sense of humor I felt safe under his hands and that of his staff at Rhode Island Hospital . I’m very grateful and fortunate to have been in the hands of a highly skilled neurosurgeon. Thank you Dr. Toms.
I don't know where to begin, from the start Dr. Toms was caring, thorough, listened, let you talk, cry, yell, he set the right expectations of my daughters (24yr old) brain cancer....he had an amazing bedside manner and was professional. My daughter was immediately comfortable with Dr Toms and the treatment he will do. He removed a lemon sized tumor 100% from her cerebellum four days after she was admitted. (Medulablastoma). He checked on her 1-2 times a day, Dr Toms and his team were always in sinc and knew what was going on, communication is key wit them. We highly recommend Dr. Toms for any neuro situations. Thank you very much.
BEST of the best! I’m 28 and a 21-year 3 time brain tumor survivor. Dr. Toms performed 2 of my 3 brain surgeries. He’s a great surgeon who always puts the patient’s best interest first. He most definitely has the knowledge AND the heart!!! I travel all the way from Louisville, KY to see him. After THREE major brain surgeries, chemo, & 30 radiation treatments, I’m able to live a “normal” life and work without any constant and obvious majorly life altering residual issues. Would without a doubt recommend him!!!
I’m 28 and a 21-year/3 time brain tumor survivor much thanks to Dr. Steven Toms! I work as a high school and live a “normal” life with really only minor short term memory problems. I have followed Dr. Toms from Vanderbilt to Cleveland Clinic now to Rhode Island. He is so knowledgeable and is one of the most sincerely loving and caring people I know.
Lo recomendaria con toda confianza.
Bedside manner horrible, arrogant and very angry when challenged with questions. Sad that a man with that much knowledge has such lack in control of his emotions
Dr Toms operated when others said it was impossible. My husband's life was extended by two years because of his excellent work. Dr. Toms and his team were very caring for my family throughout my husband's care.
Dr.Toms is amazing. After receiving my diagnosis he was very caring and did an excellent job on my biopsy. Highly recommend .
Dr. Toms was an arrogant man. In all aspects of his professionalism we were highly dissatisfied with him. I would not ever recommend him. It is ashame when a Doctor thinks he is God.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
