List of Ziya Gokaslan's Reviews
After an exhausting journey with various supposedly-top neurosurgeons in the NY region, we're so glad to have discovered this gem in Rhode Island, a brilliant man named Dr. Gokaslan! Dr. Gokaslan performed complex spinal surgery on my father. He incorporated his unparalleled talent and medical expertise along with compassionate care you'll barely find among doctors in general, surely not in specialists of his caliber. Thank you doctor for being a source of light and hope, for my father and for our entire family, during these trying times!
I had gone numerous years through numerous doctors after I found out what I thought I had was a schwanoma. Then I was given Dr. Gokaslan and he gave me a different option for help. His bedside manner was on comparable to any doctor I’ve ever had. Sharonda who was also part of his team was also amazing in both bedside manner and personability. They joke with you to help ease any stress you may have about the situation and any questions you have they answer them fully and completely and make sure that you understand. This team was one of the best teams I’ve ever had to work on me And I would recommend them to anybody.

Prior to seeing Dr. Gokaslan I was in tremendous pain for nearly a year. I had seen several doctors and they were unable to put the pieces together to accurately diagnose me. However, I went to see Dr. Gokaslan and within 45 minutes he was able to diagnose and layout a plan of action to fix me. I would highly recommend Dr. Gokaslan to anyone in need of his services.
After recent surgery, I could not have been more pleased than the care, kindness and professionalism displayed by Dr. Gokaslan in my care and well being. It is evident he was truly concerned about by me by the way he took the time, to address all of my questions before and after the surgery.I am well on the way to recovery! He and his outstanding staff are truly and asset to Rhode Island Hospital!
My experience with Dr. Ziya Gokaslan, while at Johns Hopkins Hospital was very good! Not only did the surgery serve it's purpose, without detriment and a positive outcome given my likelihood of success and condition, but he personally proved his worth and was very kind, optimistic and did his very best to improve quality of life for me under difficult circumstances. Having to put your life in the hands of another knowing that the slightest misstep in the process could cause great detriment to you and is of great risk is not easy, however he instilled confidence, had an optimistic outlook and excellent reputation which made the process more easy to undergo. His reputation preceded him and made it easier to put my trust in him and life in his hands. Knowing that he underwent training with the likes of Dr. Donlin Long, former Johns Hopkins Hospital Chief of Neurosurgery and is known to be stellar internationally as well as renowned within the United States, made him an easier choice when having to narrow down my neurosurgical candidate. Since then, he has operated on several family members and now that I am facing further surgery at a later date in my life, I am once again trusting him to do the very best to review my case and help make critical decisions towards my future and surgical possibilities. We, as a family, consider him a wonderful asset to our, "team," ever willing to be of assistance when necessary and to operate if needed with great skill and compassion. I think of him fondly and with much gratitude.
I have never met a Dr. as patient & understanding as Dr. Gokaslan. I never feel rushed at my appointments & he helps me feel at ease when I have so many questions. I am very grateful I was referred to him to have my spinal cord tumor surgery. He has an excellent bedside manner also. He took a lot of time with my mother & I showing us my MRI of my tumor & explaining everything to us. He really listened to all of my concerns & really made me feel as comfortable as possible with having to have had such a dangerous surgery. I had also requested to see the tumor once it was removed and he took a picture of it with his phone and sent it to me so I could see what was invading my spine! He's an absolutely amazing Dr. & surgeon. His staff is also very helpful and friendly.
Dr. Ziya Gokaslan, who is now with the Rhode Island Hospital where he is Chief of Neurosurgery and Chair of Neurosurgery at the Brown University Medical School, recently performed spinal surgery on me to correct a serious cervical spinal stenosis problem I had. It included fusing 5 vertebrae, and a laminectomy. His work was outstanding, the result was everything I could have hoped for, and his courtesy and "bedside manner" were excellent. Before the operation he reviewed the problem, illustrated with MRIs, with my wife and me, explained what he would do and why, and answered all of our questions. My symptoms at the time included difficulty walking, including significant loss of balance, and loss of sensation in my fingers, both caused by pressure of degenerated vertebrae against my spinal cord. Within three weeks after the surgery I experienced a remarkable improvement on these, and after 6 weeks I had recovered to about 95% of my previous ability - an exceptionally good result where nerve damage was involved. In due course the recovery should be total. He has also provided excellent followup care. Unlike many doctors, he gave me his direct phone number and email and encouraged me to ask him any question any time. I have done that both before and after the surgery. His response has been prompt and very helpful. Finally, he has a very pleasant and relaxed manner, which as a patient facing some very critical survey, and requiring a careful recovery, I found very reassuring. He combines to a rare degree outstanding surgical expertise and a helpful and pleasant manner manner. I could not recommend any doctor more highly. --

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
