John Gaines's Online Review Report Card

I was trying to get off of a medication I had been on for 10 years. He made me quit cold turkey which sent me into a tailspin. After 2 months of absolute agony and no quality of life he told me I win and put me back on it. I sought the help of another MD who worked WITH me and was successful. Do not go to him.

I have been seeing Dr. Gaines since I turned 18. He has always been nice and full of humor while getting the job done. I'm going on 36 soon and I have never had a complaint about him or his staff. I actually love calling in and hearing the same few voices that have been there forever. Intake, outtake, the nurse practitioners and even the occasional med student have all been wonderful just as Dr. Gaines <3

I believe Dr. Gaines is very competent and knowledgeable, however he makes light of everything so it's hard to feel that your concerns are taken seriously. I think humor is great to put people at ease, however it often made me feel that he was a bit arrogant and dismissive.

The most unprofessional man I have ever met in the medical community. Rude AF when he walked in the exam room this past Saturday 7/10/21while we were wearing masks and rudely greeted my daughter as a "NEW PATIENT" saying when he walked in "oh you aren't vaccinated? Bye!" AND TURNED AROUND AND CONTINUED TO WALK OUT WITH AN "OH IM JUST KIDDING" MEANWHILE PUSHING HIS POLITICS IN THE MOST ABUSIVE, UNPROFESSIONAL WAY totally un professional, AND telling me about the SCIENCE" on his views of the Covid vaccination and questioning our decisions as or rights allow. He should have just shut up and not acted as an activist. Brown Medical School would have been EMBARRASSED by his behavior. DENYING a regular annual medical exam with my daughter banning her from Coastal Medical???? I don't think so. I have been to the dentist and SO MANY OTHER PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL DOCTORS since Covid and this abusive, unprofessional behavior is being reported to your office managers, denying the claim as a bereavement and telling TUFTS NOT TO PAY FOR YOUR ABUSE. should not work with humans this was just the worst ever. He shouldn't even work with pets. "Aloof" , rude, egotistical, unprofessional, no bedside manners or ANY MANNERS AT ALL. should have saved your $$ from med school and joined the circus.

I have to agree with the bulk of the reviews here. He is not professional; he makes light of any concerns; and he doesn’t listen. Plus he was reading my blood tests and said my B12 was through the roof. When he gave me the sheet he was reading from, it belonged to another patient. When I went out of the examination room to give it back to him, he told me not to approach him because he was looking up the next patients info on his computer. When I told him he gave me someone else’s tests, he grabbed the sheet out of my hand. The only time I was impressed with him was when I had Covid. I thought he was calling everyday out of concern. It turns out that when I received my monthly summary from Aetna, he was paid a bundle to make those daily calls. The guy should not be a doctor.

I was bullied and berated from the minute I met him, I found myself arguing with a Doctor I've never met before. I told him I need a Doctor to fill my current scripts (blood pressure, cholesterol) treat me when I'm sick and have a yearly check up. He directed me to walk into the nurses area and use the computer to show him where I got my information from. He told me my Cardiologist has me on the wrong meds then said I have some sort of renal failure and left the room, the nurse showed me to the exit. I plan on filing a formal complaint.

Dr Gaines does not listen to patient needs. He is too busy talking and joking around. I find him egotistical. His diagnosis is inaccurate. He allows too many visits, calls and decisions to his inexperienced PA. He does not follow up. I don’t feel he understands or cares about patient’s concerns. I find the entire office staff very unprofessional.

My husband and I found Dr. Gaines when we moved to RI over 15 years ago. We feel very fortunate to have a primary care physician whom we both consider to be no less than brilliant. Dr. Gaines always shares the most current medical studies and data pertinent to us, and he does it with his sharp, quick witted and humorous intellect, which we both anticipate and appreciate! He has gone above and beyond the call of duty with a caring, and personal touch that isn't easy to find these days. Having a doctor who we can fully trust to provide us with the best, individualized healthcare for us is very comforting, particularly in these unprecedented times.

I don’t even know where to start. Dr. Gaines is very dismissive, rude, snarky, aloof, and didn’t seem to care much about what I had to say. His bedside manor is nonexistent. Unfortunately, my primary care doctor was out or unavailable twice this year and he treated me the same way both times. He not only cut me off mid conversation to hand me over to the PA over the phone, but also whispered prior to that, “is this patient so-and-so?” He didn’t even know who he was speaking with! I know times are difficult right now, but he didn’t make it much better by making me feel like he flat out didn’t care. Very disappointing. Honestly, he should be ashamed that he treated me this way.
