Majd Chahin's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Chahin is a good oncologist. Did not get the same feeling of 'corporate medicine' that I did in Savannah (where the oncologist referred to himself as a 'hired hand'). However, on my third visit to Dr. Chahin I became disillusioned after he volunteered that my cancer would definitely return ('somewhere') after three years of being essentially cancer free (a small metastasis on my lung was ablated) following surgery and further treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NY. A large percentage of patients do experience a recurrence, but not all and national statistics do not necessarily apply to the top cancer center in the US. Only time will tell, but I think the statement was inaccurate and inappropriate. I certainly would have fit on a statistical curve, and probably died, had I accepted what I first heard in Savannah. My local oncologist is now in Charleston.

My visits with Dr Chahin were very good. I found him to be knowledgeable, competent, and kind. He said my scan showed no changes and that I continue to be cancer-free. I was so relieved to hear that, of course! My only complaint was that I had to wait 10 days or so, from the time I got the MRI until I got the results from Dr. Chahin. I don’t know if that is a decision made by the hospital, the oncology department, or him - but when I was treated initially at UK Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, Ky, I would usually get MRI results the next day; 2 days tops. I think it’s weird to make a patient wait that long for something like that. Again, I don't know who makes those decisions. I’m moving out of state, so I will have to find a new oncologist, and I’m really sorry I can’t continue to see Dr. Chahin. My experience with him was absolutely positive and I highly recommend him.

If you want honest, candid reports of your scans, then Dr. Chahin is not your doctor. Both myself and my daughter are cancer survivors. Still knowing this, and having an elevated CA 125 and other unusual symptoms at my yearly appointment, Dr. Chahin told me that a CT scan, done prior to my visit, "showed NOTHING"! "All is good" "Wait 3 months, an we will recheck" I was not given copies of the CT Scan, so we trusted.this doctor! In May I had the CT Scan redone showing that the so called "none existent" mass (that he did not tell be about in Early March visit) was much larger and the CA125 was much higher than the elevated levels of the February visit. My GP is the doctor who became alarmed and told me about the test results! I acquired copies of both CT scans through my GP with results from 3/10/20 and 5/26/20 which plainly show that there was a mass there in Feb., and by the May Scan, the tumor had almost doubled in size! The surgery and chemotherapy were done by a specialist in Texas. Because of the long delay and the increased size of the tumor, the results have been less than ideal! If you cannot trust your doctor to tell you honestly your test results, and delay other tests and examinations when other possible indicators of cancer/tumors are present....why would you use this doctor?

I had cancer that was ignored by this doctor. I was told nothing was wrong with me, although my CA 125 was elevated and the CT Scan showed a mass, he still told me “nothing was wrong” and said he would see me in 3 months! I had a history of ovarian cancer and chemo/surgery in the past that should have been another reason to be alert. In the 3 months that I waited, trusting his decision, my tumor almost doubled in size, the CA125 elevated even more and the end result was not good. Please don’t risk your life with this man!

Not what I anticipated after a recommendation from a friend.

Dr. Chahin has graciously agreed to follow me while I decide where to live and receive treatment. Having a rare, incurable cancer, I want to maintain my relationship with Dr. Martin @ Weil Cornell cancer center in Manhattan. It has also seemed prudent to have the same people reading scans and doing my every other month maintenance infusions. But it would be scary spending 3 months here in SC without someone to turn to. Dr. Chahin is direct, thorough, and on top of my kind if cancer. It may be that by summer, I will have the confidence to live and receive all treatment here....I found Dr Chapin thru someone he carried to what seems to be a full cure!

I've been seeing Dr Chahin for almost three years now. Unfortunately my body just did not handle chemo well, but himself and his team were great at listening to me and my body and changing my plan of action to not just keep it tolerable, but to help eliminate it as much as possible. If you want a Dr who is just going to be honest with you and not try to sugar coat everything... This is defiantly the oncologist you want!

Very thorough and explains course of treatment so it easy to understand. Great “bedside manner “. Good sense of humor. I feel confident in his scope of treatment for me.

Dr. Chahin was not very involved in my husband's treatment. His assistants saw him at appointments. We spent much time researching for information and had to ask if what we had found would be helpful. The treatment was reactive rather than proactive. He never saw him when he was hospitalized and when his cancer recurred he seemed to have no interest in treating him.

My husband was very ill with a deadly cancer with little hope for survival. Upon Dr. Chahin's recommendation we were going to give chemo a try. His first treatment was on a Fri. morning. He had an severe allergic reaction and died the following Thurs. Our family never heard a word from Dr. Chahin or anyone in his office. He also never visited him while he was in the hospital. Very disappointed.
