List of Martin Steed's Reviews
I have had nothing but positive experiences at MUSC OMS. From my initial consultation in March of 2022 to my jaw surgery in March of 2023, I have always received excellent care. Dr. Steed & Dr. Coenen listened to all of my questions, built a case for my insurance company which was approved , and assured my anxious mom that everything was going to be ok. The doctors here make the difference. They turn what could be a scary experience into a positive one. If you get lucky enough to be assigned to Steed or Coenen, consider yourself in good hands.
Dr Steed did jaw reconstruction surgery on my son Hugh Williams Jr.on August 1, 2017 for Maxillary hypoplasia and Mandibular hyperplasia. It was supposed to be an outpatient surgery but instead due to the incompetence of Dr Steed, my son was black and blue all over his chest and bleeding so profusely and in such pain he had to be hospitalized. The surgery was not done properly. After multiple rechecks since the problem was not corrected, we were informed he had to have the surgery redone and pay for this correction of Steed's horrible performance. Even though we were informed in writing 3 times that the original surgery was covered 100 percent since we had met our deductible, we were billed from MUSC for the original surgery for $157,000. Instead of letting this incompetent surgeon do the surgery again, my son had corrective surgery done on December 21, 2018 by Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Associates at less than 2 percent of the MUSC cost. Today which is October 29, 2020 my son was informed all the trauma to the jaw due to Dr Steed's extreme incompetence was causing Hugh Jr's teeth on the bottom jaw to degenerate and he now has to have dental implants. DO NOT use this surgeon as he is so incompetent. Horrible experience with life-long repercussions. DR Steed is the worst in his field.
I have been to many oral surgeons. Dr. Steed is one of the worst. I had TMJ surgery with him, and he put me through 2 years of pain afterwards because I could find no one else to go to. I repeatedly asked for new imaging due to pain and lack of function after surgery. He refused. I had to have my jaw joints replaced because of it.
Dr. Steed did jaw reconstruction on my son Hugh on August 1 2017 because of documented medical necessity. The surgery was supposed to be outpatient. Due to extreme incompetence of Dr. Steed, Hugh was in such horrible condition after surgery(chest was completely black and blue and he was bleeding so profusely and in such pain) that he had to be hospitalized. After repeated follow up visits since the surgery was done incorrectly, we were informed that Hugh had to have the surgery redone at our own expense with Dr Steed. We were informed three times from MUSC in writing that the initial surgery was covered 100% since our deductible had been met but instead were billed by MUSC for $157,000. Instead of Dr Steed, we had corrective surgery done with Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Associates at less than 2% of Dr Steed's cost. We were informed today that due to the extreme trauma to his jaw because of Dr Steed's incompetence Hugh has to have dental implants on the lower jaw. BEWARE of this QUACK!
My child had bilateral cysts on his lower jaw that went unnoticed by his regular dentist that we were seeing every 6 months and when I specifically asked about his jaw, he sent me to a noted specialist in our area that spent most of the time consulting his computer before sending me to Dr. Steed. Thank goodness. Dr. Steed diagnosed, correctly, my son's situation and a precise surgery later, my son's lower molars could erupt properly. After the harrowing experience at the prior specialist's office, it was a relief to have such a professional take care of my son. He explained everything to me AND my son beforehand, relieving concerns and fear. I give Dr. Steed my highest praise as a mom.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
