List of Musc Health Dermatology At West Ashley Medical Pavilion's Reviews
This was a rather frustrating and concerning situation. I waited over an hour for an eye appointment where people were visibly unwell and coughing. It was stressful--especially when the goal of screening individuals at check in is to minimize exposure to illness. I politely addressed the situation with the staff who indicated they were equally as frustrated. This is not a primary care office where you would expect people to arrive sick. MUSC needs to assess how they're managing the waiting area. Will be providing my feedback via the survey as well. Overall time spent with the doctor was roughly 5 minutes.
Extremely confusing check in process. Past the entryway, you're greeted by a podium with unclear instructions. I had to ask the grumpy security guard next to me twice how it works. I felt like I was waiting in line at the DMV, waiting to be called up to the counter to check in. When I finally heard my name, I was given a piece of paper to take down to the 50 yard line and SCAN (???) this paper at a kiosk and wait in the waiting area. I don't understand why this is now all computer generated. This whole process was extremely confusing for a first timer and I feel bad for any elderly person who has to deal with the confounding instructions.
Went there to get some blood work done, secretary was more concerned with her lunch order and making sure she had extra sauce for her wings than to take waiting patients info. When she finally had the time, I had a document on my phone that was needed and she couldn't print it out citing "people abusing the privilege". I ask her if she knew where I could quickly print this out, she had no idea. I left the building a little miffed, looked across the street and saw a Post Net place, got my doc printed. Went back in with printed documentation and was greeted kindly by another secretary taking over for the last, who probably went to lunch. She took care of me quickly along with the nurse, who acted kindly and professionally. Gonna give 5 stars on behalf of the hard working people I encountered after I came back printing my documents.
I come here every month and always have a smooth experience. The way they've organized check in, blood draw, and procedures is impressive. I've never waited too long. Everyone in the infusion suite is an angel, they always make me feel so welcomed!
This is a very convenient place to have a variety of medical providers. It's run very efficiently and the parking is great. Today I had a radiology appointment at 1 pm. It's now 1:15 and I am leaving the facility. I have seen several different types of medical providers here and it is always high quality care with great customer service
Wait time was minimal in waiting room and patient room. Staff very nice. I saw Dr. Elston this visit. Very knowledgeable. Did a total skin check on me, did a biopsy on a couple of skin cancers and referred me to a blue light treatment for precancerous cells on my face. Excellent care! Very pleased!
Very disappointed in my experience here for several reasons. While the appointment went alright, I was charged hundreds of dollars after the fact for items that were never disclosed to me during the visit. The lack of transparency in terms of billing is absolutely unacceptable. Even with insurance a minor visit turned into a huge expense. I will likely never return to any MUSC facility because of this.
I give 1 star for the surgeon, who did a fantastic job. Dr. Slone. I give 1 star for the nice staff who were there to assist during my surgery, including the nice nurse who realized why I have a mask exemption and made sure I was able to have surgery after I almost lost consciousness. Aside from that, this medical facility might as well be from the 14th century or else they are "woke". They do not observe mask exemptions, even after the governor passed a law prohibiting such mandates. I traveled 2.5+ hours (one way) for all of my appointments, some were prompt, others forgotten. I wore a mask despite doctor's orders not to and was once yelled at during an MRI for not breathing enough. (reasons I have a mask exemption) I almost couldn't have knee surgery because after being tested for Covid, I still was forced to wear a mask and almost passed out before a nurse noticed the problem. Thank goodness he had me take it off or they wouldn't have allowed me to have surgery! And despite this madness and an order from the SC governor, they still insisted I wear one for a follow up appointment, stating that if they had known I had an exemption "I could be the first appointment of the day" ... which I can't because of where I live. Also, I mentioned the exemption EVERY TIME I WENT. They know! Their own staff saw first hand! Considering this is a university, one would be inclined to believe they are up-and-up on the latest science, but the reality is the opposite. It's like showing up to a technology convention where they write everything by hand. The disappointment is disheartening. Even the "manager" that offered me non-options for my follow up appointment noted that she looked forward to the day when they didn't have these policies. ... meaning what??!? Does she know that it's all BS, but is following along? What exactly is going on?? This facility would do better to offer special catering to the "woke" and let the rest of us live normally. The latest science on masks shows how they offer more detriment than help. Most people knew this already ... how MUSC still hasn't figured it out tells me that either they are very far behind in science (which isn't good for those seeking medical attention) or else they are more interested in politics than science (also not good for those seeking medical attention!) Either way, no thanks, I think I'll find a different facility for my next surgery. I need medical staff that is up to date on science and concerned for patients over politics.
Love the new location and can't say enough good things about Dr. Mazza! She is AMAZING!!!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
