Prisma Health's Online Review Report Card

My 90 yr old father was admitted for Sepsis back in October of this year. As an RN, as well as my dads medical POA, I was VERY impressed with the quality of care my dad received AND the thorough communication and timely updates I received starting from his arrival in the ER, his admission to the CCU, as well as the consult by palliative care and ultimately his admission to inpatient Hospice services.Being out of state and needing to arrange to drive to SC, I was kept fully updated over the approx 48 hrs it took me to get down there. Knowing that my father was dying, was a DNR and did not want any “heroic” measures, it was still important to our family that, if possible, he be stabilized and also kept comfortable long enough for all of us to say our goodbyes. If you know much about full blown sepsis, you know that it can be very challenging to stabilize the patients BP with IV infusions that bump up their pressure while simultaneously providing pain medications that can lower their pressure. It becomes even more challenging when that same patients wishes are to not be intubated or resuscitated.Everyone involved with my dads care was attentive to helping us meet our fathers treatment goal, as well as professional and understanding enough to individualize his plan of care. As an RN of 20+ years with prior ICU, ER experience and more recent history as a hospice RN, I am certain that aided in the entire communication process. Being able to clearly communicate my fathers wishes on his behalf, as well as having a good understanding of just how sick he was, as well as the complexity of what all his care involved, made it much easier to navigate decision making and establishing a plan of care autonomously with his doctors. The fact that all of his doctors took the time to ensure this occurred is one thing that highly impressed me.Before making a knee jerk reaction and hopping online to fill out a 1-2 star review because everything didn’t just magically turn out perfect, please consider the context of how your situation fits into the “larger picture” of everything else that is simultaneously occurring in such a large, level 1 trauma center. Whatever situation brought you to the ER, is no doubt very important to you. However, there’s likely another 100 + patients there, many of who’s situation might very well be more acute then yours. I get it, waiting sucks, it requires patience when you are not feeling well, but you have to trust that everyone is working their hardest to get to you as soon as they possibly can, but it’s all based on triage of acuity level.Thank you Palmetto Heart Hospital Richlands, from the ER staff who worked so hard to stabilize my father, to the CCU team that admitted him and the Hospice team that took over management of his care. You all helped to ensure that my father was able to hear my siblings and I say our goodbyes. You ensured that he passed away peacefully and with dignity. The nurses/ staff in the CCU are some of the strongest and most incredible people you will ever have the privilege to meet. When you fill out your patient “satisfaction” survey, please remember that they are there giving their all on behalf of your loved one. No-one without the skill and compassion it takes to do their job could do it. Given the amount of self sacrifice that the job requires, it would simply not be possible. So when you fill out your survey, please keep in mind that your loved ones nurse is there to save your loved ones azz, not to kiss yours.

Let me lead with I love my Cardiologist. However if you’re coming here for an appointment, be prepared to WAIT. My appointment was at 7 for blood work only. It’s almost 7:40, there’s a lobby full of people, and no one has been called back. This is very frustrating. Especially when you have a job to go to.

They are pretty horrible. I’m so mad right now.

Caring staff. Very thorough.

Great. The staff from the cleaning, food, patient services, nurses, techs, doctors, attendants, 5hose in patients areas, those in prep, post, all treated me with professional, courteous, excellent care,. At all times, was treated with upmost respect and concern.

The center is clean, machines are in good working condition and the staff seems to be friendly. However, I have received little or no encouragement and seem to be blindly going through a program with no updates or education on what milestones they look at. So far I'm disappointed

I recently visited with Prisma Heart Hospital. I'am very thankful to share a five star review of Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Baugh and Dr. Wells and their team members of my experience and communication and handling while I was there under their expertise and care. Ms. Sonja in admissions was kind, pleasant and helpful. Thank you for the duty you care for each day in your work in the lives of all who come through those doors!

I have an appointment in advanced but still waiting for more than two hours!

Excellent Cardiologist here! Dr. Jones is AWESOME!
