Best urologist EVER!! Professional and very knowledgeable . His staff is awesome as well.
This Dr has 0 bedside manner. He has been my dads Dr for a short time and now my dad finally has gotten a referral to go to another Dr. Dr F is so extremely rude and acts like he's going out of his way to help you. He has 0 patience for people who are hard of hearing. When my dad first started seeing him i referred Dr F to someone else who went one time snd asked me why I would send him to such an A Hole. I have heard his office staff is nice snd helpful, if that helps, but he is a condescending grouch. I think he needs to retire. Sounds like he's overdue!!!
I was in the waiting room for 1.5 hours and had a 15 minute consultation. Afterwords, he canceled my surgery on last minute notice. I'll move on to a different doctor because Time is valuable - I don't believe they realize this factor.
Dr Alan Freedman is by far the industry best Urologist you can find. After dealing with painful kidney stones for several months (no thank you to Healthcare Partners) I switched medical groups to Hoag. I will never go back! Dr Freedman is a Physician...Not a communications expert to all the complainers on Yelp. He removed a frickin stone that had grown to nearly 9mm! His support staff are amazing at authorizing the necessary scheduling for any surgery needed in a timely manner and are always friendly and flexible!
Let me start by saying the office staff is very kind and welcoming. Unfortunately the level of care one would hope for from a Doctor was not provided. During ultrasound testing, we heard the doctor state he saw kidney stones, but during the consult he mentioned he did not feel that was the root cause of pain for the patient. He sent the patient home with no next steps or medication. Subsequent efforts to reach the doctor for further help per direction of other doctors have been unsuccessful. It is disheartening to be in so much pain and encounter a doctor that not only seems uncaring, but provides absolutely no direction.
Zero stars!!!I had read reviews of Dr. Freedman saying he is a good doctor. That is beyond misleading. If you are looking for a Dr. who is not only competent but kind, respectful, caring, and a good listener, DO NOT go to Dr. Freedman. My friend took her husband who is suffering from dementia to him 3 weeks ago and he was rude and cold. She thought she would give him another chance. When she arrived, her husband was severely agitated. She asked for a room to go to so as to not disturb the 4 people in the waiting room. She was told by the staff that they could not accommodate her although she was visibly shaken and upset. A man in the waiting room started to scream at her telling her to leave. She calmly told him that her husband suffers from dementia and that she had driven all the way from Escondido. He "Shouted" that he could care less and kept verbally attacking her. The staff allowed this to go on for three to four minutes. She was crying and extremely stressed when they finally brought her back and miraculously had a room for her. When she saw Dr. Freedman, he then started yelling at her and told her that he was not interested and was sick of dealing with Alzheimers , and that he only wanted to address urology problems. He also said he was too busy to wait one minute for her step-daughter to arrive. He also indicated that he ONLY worked 9 to 5 and would NOT take calls outside of that time frame EVER. This is not acceptable behavior for health care professionals, staff included. She called and expressed her concerns and asked for a call from the doctor and an apology. she got excuses from the staff and no call from the Dr. This disrespect, insensitivity, arrogance and lack of compassion is not acceptable in any health professional. Send a message and FIND SOMEONE ELSE!!!
I have been seeing Dr. Freedman for many years. I have always found him to be very caring, personable, and friendly. He is extremely competent. I HIGHLY recommend him 100%! Excellent, very friendly staff as well.
As a physician, before I go to another doctor, I research other physicians very carefully. The vast majority of the comments I found about Dr. Freedman were positive. I was not disappointed. His approach was very analytical, his manner empathetic, and his explanations and reasons for what he planned to do, very thorough. Yes, he knew I am a physician but my feeling is that this is his approach with every patient he sees. I can certainly recommend him.
Three procedures with Dr. Freedman and almost five weeks later, I was still stuck with a large kidney stone and having to wear a stent. On my final visit there, he had me prepped to remove the stent, only to let me know afterwards that the stone was still too large and the stent would have to stay in. He basically gave up on me which was probably a blessing in disguise. He then referred me to another doctor/urologist. I called as soon as I left Dr. Freedman's office and the earliest I could see the other doctor was in 13 days. I later found out that the needed surgery would be scheduled about a month after that. What really bothered me is when I called Dr. Freedman's office and asked if they could place an URGENT request to get me in sooner and have the surgery scheduled sooner. I never heard back from Dr. Freedman or his office staff.Fortunately, I found another urologist who scheduled me sooner and was able to take care of the stone in one procedure. Do yourself a favor, if you have a large kidney stone in your ureter, go to an urologist who uses a flexible scope... big difference!
I a new patient of Dr Freedman's and couldn't be more pleased. He was recommended to me by my Hoag cardiologist (and doctors who recommend other doctors are rarely wrong). I came in for a long overdue exam and was pleased with the efficiency of Dr. Freedman and his staff. Both he and his staff were fast, friendly and efficient. The office is easy to find with ample free parking. I highly recommend him.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
