List of Hilton Head Hospital's Reviews
HH Emergency is incredibly impressive. I went on a Saturday evening and was nervous due to covid. The receptionist, the nurses, and Dr. Snowman were efficient, timely, professional and kind. Thank you.
My mother moved from Westchester NY to HHI SCcabout 2 years ago. We have been so lucky that she has been relatively healthy and for any major concerns we are able to fly her back to NYC for treatment. This past week my mother was crippled in pain. She went to see her doc her told her to go to the ER concerned that she may have appendicitis. So she went to Hilton Head Hospital for a Cat Scan. She went to the ER at 2:45pm on a Tuesday afternoon. It was crowded for a Tuesday but nothing compared to NYC hospitals esp during covid. My mother apparently was triaged upon walking in. Triage is when they get your insurance information name, date of birth and a general description of the pain (according to them). They did not ask her her pain scale, they did not ask her what her doctor said or even take her vitals. Her blood pressure, temperature, etc... we're not assessed. But when I asked the registered nurse Who so currently explain to me over the phone that she was triage and she was asked what she thought was wrong, but again was told that her vitals were not taken. Therefore she was not properly assessed. They asked her what do you think it is (publicly, without offering her any privacy whatsoever) My mother is a retired 75 year old VP of relations at a NYC Bank. She is not Qualified to make any determination of what her pain might be caused from. My mother is also not going to discuss her issues in public with little to no privacy. She said I think it might be diverticulitis. Not mentioning her back pain or arm pain. She sat in the waiting room alone (bc I currently reside in Connecticut and could not get down there fast enough) for 5 hours. Not once was she checked on. Not once did anyone update her. She was left there alone. She left 5.5 hours later. I called the ER Several times speaking with the emergency room secretary (Peggy) who then transferred me after placing me on hold for 30 min to an emergency room registered nurse. I am completely sympathetic to their situation and how hard medical personnel are working, how shortstaffed they are, and how busy emergency rooms across the United States are currently. My husband is a Perc Nurse (covid nurse) I calmly explained our situation and both women I spoke to were completely disingenuous, lacked any type of empathy, and showed no concern for the health of a patient. They were rude, sarcastic, and did I mention disingenuous. If you are a tourist down in Hilton head Island and you fall ill I strongly suggest to air on the side of caution and stay far away from HHI Hospital and their staff. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a hospital within the United States. Two thumbs down. This hospital needs to do better and realize their demographic. They need to work on patient relations and efficiency. Majority of the Hilton head Island population is elderly so if they cannot accommodate the population then they need to make some changes. The elderly cannot afford to wait over five hours in an emergency room without being properly assessed/triaged. HIlton Head Island Hospital was AWFUL! Do better. Hire some competent nurses with bedside manners.
My mother just came to the hospital for health issues they were extremely rude to her ! She was in the waiting room and a elderly women asked the nurses for help 3 times because her husband was going unconscious and they finally came out after he was coding . I understand hospitals get busy but if someone asks you for help because something terribly bad is happening it’s your job to assist them not sit in your chair .
My husband went in on Christmas morning and was treated immediately. The doctor and staff were great!
I won't go into great detail because I understand that there is a serious medical crisis in this country, partly due to covid. Please do not go to this ER unless you have absolutely no other alternative. Their office staff is grossly incompetent, to the level that I would expect to see only in a third world country, and certainly not on Hilton Head Island.
From the emergency room to admission the care from both nurses and doctors was excellent. This’s has been consistent for both myself and my husband. You can also preregister for emergency. Not the case for us as heart attacks and other time sensitive illness.
Had a very positive experience with your ED. Quick diagnosis and surgery. Everyone we interacted with for the 4 days we were in the hospital was kind and professional.
I had to unfortunately visit this hospital for pain related issues that I was unable to get rid of on my own in Aug of 2021. Let me be clear here ... I have been to other hospitals before so I am speaking from experience. The over all service was okay. When I checked in I was the only person in the waiting room and I was in pretty bad shape. My husband had dropped me off because he wasn't allowed in due to covid. I assumed that seeing I was the only one waiting that I would be seen pretty quickly. I assumed wrong, iI took them at least 30+ min to get me in and once I was back there I thought I would see a packed ER but that was not the case what so ever. But whatever. The staff was nice and accommodating to my needs once the process got started. They helped with the pain, although we never really did find anything specifically wrong with me I did leave feeling better. That didn't last long because when I got my bill I almost had a heart-attack but if I had had a heart-attack I would not be going to the Hilton Head Hospital! I have never ever seen an ER bill so overpriced! Then in the process of trying to negotiate with them so I could pay it they were very hard to get ahold of first and foremost and then it was impossible to negotiate. I would never recommend anyone to ever visit this ER unless you have money you just want to throw away or the best insurance in the world! Look for a concierge doctor in the area I'm sure the prices will be more reasonable or a general practice doctor in the area. I hope this helps some sick hopeless person to make a better decision than to be ripped-off by this establishment!
Adequate emergency dept. Efficient, and well staffed. I was in and out in a reasonable amount of time.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
