List of Thomas Hughes's Reviews
This guy deserves a zero rating in my opinion. He is the most undeserving arrogant condescending uncaring belittling berating doctor I have ever met. He doesnt let you finish your sentences and treats you like you are ignorant and that he is superior to you because HE is the doctor. He formed his diagnosis before he even heard me out. When I didnt agree he asked me well doc then what do you think it is? Told him I was getting a second opinion and he told me well good luck with that and to let him know how that works out for me like he is God or something. I paid this man to talk to me like I am an ignorant nobody in a time when I am experiencing some mysterious and miserable symptoms that I am searching for answers for only to be left feeling very belittled and treated as if I am nothing. Nevertheless I am back at square one and am no closer to getting relief. I cant believe you even call yourself a doctor or even a human being for that matter. Learn some manners
By far the worst Dr. I have ever had. He is condescending and overbearing. He speaks to you like a child in a sickly sweet voice that almost comes across as caring but really seems to mask an unhelpful superior attitude. I realize I am not a Dr. but I am in the medical field I can usually advocate effectively for myself he simply doesnt allow you to. Put clearly he is just very BAD at his job. I have had 3 phone visits and all 3 have left me feeling unheard and not helped. He seems to have a complete disregard for the severity of my symptoms. As far as the office is concerned it takes days for anyone to call you back there is no urgency. Dr. Hughes being a neurologist and I think the brain is rather important he seems cold to the suffering one can have. Please save yourself a lot of anguish and do yourself a favor and do not use this man.
My original appointment was a phone appointment due to COVID. I am a migraine sufferer. Dr. Hughes listened well and he explained my recovery process in a way that was very comprehensive and thorough. Unfortunately Dr. Hughes made a mistake writing out my recovery migraine prescription so insurance refused to pay and the pharmacy refused to refill when I was out. I left 3 messages on the doctors assistant extension with no reply. The 4th call the front desk finally answered my call after 10 attempts mid morning during office hours I explained that I was in a great amount of pain. I was transferred with no explanation to the doctors assistance extension again. I was never called back and the prescription problem was never resolved. I received a bill for $385 for the original 20 minute phone call with Dr. Hughes. I am now a satisfied patient at Palmetto Neurology. I have never received a return call about my request to transfer my patient files to the new doctor. I cannot recommend Tidewater Neurology.
In the beginning everything went well. Dr. Hughes seemed to know a great deal about migraine disease and treated me with compassion. Over the past couple of years hes become a broken record no caffeine no smoking I quit last year etc. I dont think hes stayed current on migraine treatments or reviewed my medications list I provide at every visit. Im tinking of finding a doctor who specializes in migraine disease.
Identified issues quickly. Ran appropriate testsscans to ID specific issues. His prescribed treatment completely changed things for me dramatically
I’m in my 40s and I have a stroke and I had seizures. About a year and a half ago I was going another neurologist in Charleston who is very kind but you’re far away to my home. Every time I want to see Dr Hughes I will need at 1 to 2.5 hours in his general office and additional 30 minutes to 1 hour in the dr office. Dr Hughes enter the room and Never apologizes for the wait. Once nurse practitioner came to see me because I was there 3 12 hours.
Besides always having to wait an hour or longer I never felt like he was doing anything to help my husband. The 3rd time we waited over an hour and a half I asked him if he ever heard of the concept of time management. He looked at me and said if I didn’t like it I knew what I could do. I smiled at him and said “Yes. I can find another neurologist”. That is exactly what I did. Buhbye.
I went with my daughter in law to see Dr Hughes. He was very evasive answering questions. I worked for over 20 years as a licensed practical nurse. And only because of my medical training and experience was I able to ask appreciate questions to understand what he was saying. And when I final started getting answers we understood he abruptly told us he did not have any more time to talk yo us as he had other patients to see. Leaving without finishing answering our questions. Now that was bad enough but the next thing is so completely unforgivable. My daughter in law is in such severe pain she had to take a medical leave from work and has no income whatsoever. She applied for food stamps. She had a form that needed to be filled out by Dr Hughes. He has had the form over 2 weeks and still has not filled it out. Her deadline to turn it in has past. He had the paperwork 2 weeks before it needed to be turned in. And now that the deadline has past his office tells her they are billing her for $50.00 to fill out the food stamp form. Now if she had any money she would not be applying for food stamps. I understand charging insurance companies and attorneys for depositions and completing long indepth forms. But to charge a patient with absolutely no income who is depending on family and friends to help her thru his painful and hard time is in my opinion totally unempathetic and totally absolutely greedy in the worst way. And it is bullying to his patient. It saying “I know you have no money for food so I’m going to hold on to this form and let you starve until you find a way to beg borrow or steal the $50.00. Because you have absolutely no choice but to pay me or you can not get food until you agree to pay me first. “. Obviously he has no idea what it is like to not know where your next meal is coming from. This is an act of someone with absolutely no compassion whatsoever for the patients he sees. They are simply a dollar amount to him.
Dr Hughes was helpful and courteous. However I cancelled my followup appointment and will not return. Heres why Had to wait for more than an hour after scheduled appointment prescription was not called in to pharmacy. The next day they said they were busy and not able to do it. Prescription finally called in the next day but pharmacy could not fill one of the three medicines because the office gave no instructions dose mg frequency. I called the office and it was closed at 430. Earlier I called the office to reschedule my follow up appointment. was put on hold for more than 15 minutes. I called back and immediately cancelled.. They seemed disinterested that I cancelled although I told them why.
I only gave Dr. Hughes one star because that’s the only way I could give a revue. He deserves 0 I took my 83 yr old mother to him to get evaluated for chronic dizziness. He never examined her and was condescending sarcastic and rude while asking her questions. This man doesn’t deserve to be a doctor and needs his license taken away She left feeling worse than when she got there. It was a waste of our time and money. Needless to say she won’t be going back

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
