Went in for a consultation, Dr.Oey seemed friendly and knowledgable. Between the consultation and surgery I had a scan done to determine exactly the type of surgery I would elect to have. When the scan results returned to Dr. Oey I received a call from her nurse Maria who told me what the scan revealed and put me on the spot for which surgery I wanted to go with. Not recalling exact details of the options at that very second, I asked for clarification before making my decision. Rather than simply refresh my memory, Maria chose to talk down to me in the most condescending manner possible telling me I needed to drive to Brookings and bring a note pad with to take notes so I don’t forget again. I made the appointment, but later cancelled after I remembered the difference and didn’t want to take the three hour round trip for something she could have told me on the phone. I called back the next day to schedule the surgery and again spoke to Maria. The condescending attitude continued as she expressed unhappiness that I cancelled the appointment and that I shouldn’t have been concerned about the time to travel to Brookings to make the appointment. At that point I realized this is an awful provider and will have the surgery done with someone else. Note about reviews on Avera’s site, they say they are fair and given to people after they leave their appointments. I never had the opportunity to convey this information through a survey with Avera so know that the ratings on that site are highly skewed!
