List of West River Mental Health's Reviews
Today I took my children to West River Mental Health seeking support for issues they’ve been struggling with for quite some time. Instead of feeling heard and understood, I left feeling dismissed and discouraged. I explained that both of my children struggle with ADHD, self-esteem issues, emotional regulation, and difficulties in school. My son internalizes his emotions and has been affected by teasing, the absence of his father, and instability related to addiction issues within our family history. My daughter struggles with anger, anxiety, ADHD, and learning difficulties that impact her education and daily life. Both of my children are behind academically and clearly struggling emotionally. During the appointment, I felt like these concerns were minimized and brushed off as “typical kid stuff” or simply needing more attention. The counselor also mentioned she could give them “at least 30 days,” which made me feel like a decision had already been made that their care would be short-term before truly understanding their needs. As a parent, it is difficult to ask for help, especially when your children are hurting emotionally and academically. I came looking for support and guidance and instead felt unheard and dismissed. I understand mental health professionals see many situations, but I believe families deserve compassion, validation, and to feel like their concerns are being genuinely considered.
I’ve experienced all positive experiences with caring doctors and therapists. Mahala is a God-send for me.
Waited 10 mins on the 1st person in line...
The type of care they give you is to experiment you on different kinds of medication till on works or makes you worse. They only care about their certificates so they will try not prescribing you anything stronger that may actually help you because they're afraid to lose their licenses/certificates. The First Lady I saw was very helpful but then they bounced me back and forth to different people and it was for the worst. The receptionist are nice but when it comes to needing a refill for a bi polar medication they want to you to see a psychiatrist and make an appointment in a month when you need a refill right away for a medication that is already prescribed. So they let you get worse before seeing you and if you have any medication problems they tell you to see your PCP instead of giving you something you've taken for so long that works because they're afraid of losing their certification. I would not go here anymore if Incan help it because they're afraid do not try to help you. It's either they're are getting some kind of kickback for trying some new medication on you. I would rate this negative but 1 star is all I can do. For your sanity only go here if you have simple problems because that's all they seem qualified for.
Unhelpful, unkind, and honestly I am shocked this is a mental health facility with how they treat patients. I was a patient there for 5-6 YEARS. In that time I mistakenly no called no showed ONCE and they closed my account and will not see me again. Meanwhile, I am completely out of meds as of last night and need at minimum my bipolar meds. I asked the nurse what I could do for suggestions or help and was told I don’t know, call back to get the front desk and they’ll see if we’ll take you back. Can’t even transfer me?! Goodness. I wish I hadn’t given such an uncaring facility my business for years.
Rude employees. There so many other options. Don't start with this place. Rushed through the appointment and they didn't even listen to my concerns. They don't care, just shuffle people through and collect a check.
It's very strict there. Limited access to counselors. Foods limited and fridges are locked 24/7. The BR's (behavioral reflections) are given daily for every little thing such as having a deodorant in your room or not keeping your children contained in one spot.
Waited over a month for an appointment, was NEVER told to be 30 minutes early for appointment, never received online paperwork. Took a day off of work, had to find a ride, and still they wouldn’t see me even though I was technically 15 minutes early for my “appointment time”. For a mental health facility this place is a joke. Do NOT go here. Better off seeing your PCP and getting a referral for ANYWHERE ELSE. They do NOT care about their patients. I wish I could leave zero stars. Front desk lady with short hair/septum piercing was extremely rude, wasn’t even giving me the next available appointment date. Which I can’t afford to take more time off of work. Heartless person.
The staff here are friendly and incredibly helpful. Very knowledgeable on resources for their clients.
I've been waiting 5 months for my med appointment, they have rescheduled it twice, moving it out a month both times, it will be 6 months by the time i see the doctor, for people struggling with mental health and trying to actually get help, it is extremely discouraging, and really makes you want to give up.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
