If I could describe my experience with Avera McKennan Hospital in one word it would be “care”. From check in at 5am, to intake, to anesthesia and wheeled in to surgery, waking up and taken to my room for recovery - every single nurse and doctor was caring, calm and informative of what to expect and next step in care. Surgery can feel overwhelming and unknown but knowing I was in good hands really set me at ease and made me feel blessed for educated staff, human kindness and clean, comfortable and caring environment. Thank you to the nurses and Dr. Starks for all you do! ❤️ Protip: if arriving before valet is open, drive up to the hospital entrance and turn left in to valet parking. You’re allowed to park there and take your keys with you as they aren’t open yet. I took a picture of my space number and license plate to show and remember where we parked.

Everyone I encountered from Dr. Rojas office to the main hospital for my surgery was EXCELLENT!!! I had to travel to Sioux Falls for a rare condition not familiar in my area and I must say any worries I had walking in the door were gone by the time I left. I would recommend this hospital and group of medical professionals to anyone having health issues. Thank you Avera for everything and God Bless you all!

I must admit. When they told me that my mom was being transported to this hospital. I googled it to get the address and my heart sank when I saw how bad the reviews were. I was so worried about the care my mother would receive. That is NOT the case. I cannot say enough good about the doctors, nurses & assistants. Very caring and compassionate towards my mother. Doctors took the time to explain her situation to me. Only thing I did not care for was that they did not allow me to stay in her room in the chair at night. We live 3 hours away. I stayed a couple of nights in a nearby hotel but had to drive home on the 3rd day because I just couldn’t afford to spend 150.00 a night for a place to sleep and I needed to get back to work. However, I was very much comfortable with leaving my mother in their very capable hands. Her room was clean, and I truly felt the staff here actually cared about the my mothers health & comfort and I cannot thank them enough!

I have never been treated so well in all of my 75 years. Dr. Drexler has to be one of the kindest, knowledgeable and gentle humans on earth. My entire experience has been one of working with a fine well-oiled machine. Bless you for wonderful work.
