Terrible attitude. My wife went in struggling to deal with anxiety and depression and he made her feel less for these struggles. A pathetic excuse of a doctor.

I wouldn’t’ even give them a 1 but that was the least I could do. Should have been -10. My Neurologist stopped his practice for the time being so that left me trying to find another neurologist. I have been looking online and reading reviews trying to find one to make an appointment with. I chose Dr. Hagenau, I have called for over two weeks and no one ever answered the phone to make a long story shorter I informed my primary care physician, she called and Booked an appointment for me. I called them back because the day was not going to work for me and I needed to make an appointment for my son at the same time as well. Again no one answered they tell you only if you’re a patient to leave a message, I’m not a patient but I left a message begging them to please call me back so I could change my appointment and make another one for my son. They called me back within minutes which tells me they could answer the phone they just don’t want to. (Screening calls I guess). She was very rude from the start I told her what I needed and she cut me off every time I was telling her what day I needed etc. he might be a good neurologist but there are also bad reviews on his bedside manner. I am a manager of a retail outlet and I know the attitude and culture of a staff start from the top down. After she was rude for the fourth time on our phone call I told her to cancel the appointment I would not be coming there. I was skeptical of all the negative reviews at first thinking well maybe it’s just the people that’s leaving the reviews maybe they just had an issue. But after having The experience that I had with them just over the phone and not being able to get them I believe the negative reviews are real. I have never left a bad review in my, life this is the first, but it was so bad I felt it needed to be done.
I had a very poor experience with Dr. Haganau. His bedside manner is terrible. He is arrogant, condescending, and rude. I would not recommend him to anyone. I have never written a review for a doctor before. My experience was so negative I felt it necessary to let people know.
Dr. Hagenau is the best neurologist I've had. I've never had a doctor take the time to listen so thoroughly to everything I said. He had several questions and genuinely seemed to care. If you have migraines, I definitely recommend seeing Dr. Hagenau. He even sent me home with a book to read!
Dr. Hagenau is absolutely the best neurologist I've ever seen, and I've seen more than a few over the last 30 years. I'm shocked that there are reviews that are negative about his bedside manner, because he is wonderful and kind. He's understanding, and takes the time to ask me questions about my life- After I had my second child, he was the only doctor (including my GP, and OB!) to really take the time to ask me details about how things were going and how I was adjusting. I will cry when he someday retires.
Dr. Hagenau didn’t take the time to learn about my symptoms, didn’t ask how long I had had them and didn’t even read my whole chart. He pretty much dismissed all of my concerns without even fully knowing what was going on. Maybe I caught him on a bad day but I will never go back.
I was referred to Dr. Hagenau for possible MS due to an inability to properly lift my foot while walking. After a warm introduction, he sat down with me and asked me to tell him the whole history of my injury. He listened patiently and took notes, interjecting questions to make sure he understood the timeline and events correctly. After he was sure he understood, he asked me to do some specific walking tests. He tested for swelling and for muscle reactions as well as feeling in my leg and foot. He asked questions about tingling or loss of sensation in my leg. After performing this easy set of tests, he ruled out neurological issues all together and said it could be extensor tendonitis, but that muscle and tendon injuries are not his specialty and all he could definitively say was that it wasn’t nerve related. He even printed off information on extensor tendonitis for me to help me better understand the injury. After seeing a PA and doctor at another office who deemed my injury either joint or nerve related, I was ecstatic to have someone who actually understood my injury. Even more impressive since this area is not at all his specialty. All of this took only 30 minutes. He was kind, patient, and efficient. I would highly recommend him for anything in his specialty.
Bad bedside manners and a condescending tone make for a difficult doctor patient relationship. I don't think he's that bad of a doctor, but he just has poor interpersonal skills.
He has given me great care for many years.
Went to him for over a year w/symptoms of an autoimmune disorder. Kept being told I needed to lose weight & exercise, considered me melodramatic when my cognitive issues had flared up. Had one MRI done w/o contrast. Claimed it was normal. My symptoms were getting worse as he was still telling me I needed to lose weight & exercise more. I went for a 2nd opinion. Guess what? Within one month I had a Brain MRI w/ & w/o Contrast, a Cervical Spine MRI, & a Spinal Tap. CONFIRMED Multiple Sclerosis! MS bands in csf & bloodwork, & lesions/spots in the brain. My brain is covered with spots & lesions w/some grey matter issues as well. Ive apparently had RRMS for years but its lately become progressively worse. This guy missed that, didnt do enough tests, & above all else, treated me as if I were an over reactive, melodramatic female. If you want to know whats actually going on w/you & going on w/your body go elsewhere! Thankful I did.
I was suffering with many health conditions. Incoherent speech, slurring my words, extreme swelling head to toe, zero appetite excessive weight gain, shortness of breath, very clumsly and always very, very, cold. Dr. Hagenau discussed with me about my many health problems at the start of appointment, then I was asked to walk outside in the hallway. Dr. Hagenau observed that I was drifting side to side as I was walking. Dr. Hagenau said I think you have a thyroid issue. Dr. Hagenau sent me immediately to the onsight lab for blood work. This was estimated at 3pm the next morning by 7:30am I was notified I had a prescription ready for Hypothyroid condition. My blood work indicated my blood count was 244 And normal count should be 3.5 to 5. After a few blood tests and dosage changes to my medicine...my blood is normal again. I am convinced I owe my good health, and my life to the GREAT care from Dr. Curtis Hagenau. Sincerely, Robert C. Adams
The staff was helpful and friendly. However, Dr Hagenau seemed to come to his conclusion before he heard me out. His diagnosis, while it could be accurate, seemed more of a dismissal from his office and he failed to explain to me how it can explain my symptoms. He offered zero support, except suggesting treatment for apparent assumed mental instability. His tone was never angered or outrightly unkind, but he was extremely overconfident and condescending. If he was truly confident in the diagnosis he should have defended it by explaining its plausibility further. If he wasnt he should have had enough integrity to disclose that and offer further testing should symptoms return. I will NOT be returning to this office. And, Godforbid these awful symptoms return, I will be seeing another neurologist. I left the office astounded and discouraged.

I suffered for almost 3 years with what was determined as nerve pain. I went to multiple specialist for years. No one could figure it out. My FIRST visit with Dr. Hagenau and he knew exactly what to suspect. He ran a few minor tests and diagnosed me right away! I left with a low dose neuralgia med and have been on it and GREAT ever since. He literally saved me!!!
We met with Dr. Hagenau yesterday. My husband suffered a stroke in January and was also having some nerve problems with his hip and foot. Dr. Hagenau thoroughly examined Don and listened to all his concerns, never rushing him. He very confidently diagnosed Don and did not suggest unnecessary tests or prescriptions. We found him to be very caring. We are so happy that we found such a wonderful doctor.
This guy gets and F in being a doctor and a person. if he had taken 10 minutes to see me I might not have wound up in the ICU at Vanderbilt. If I could give this guy a negative rating I would. What happened to the oath of do no harm
Dr. Hagenau has helped me manage my MS for the last 12 years or so. He has guided me to medication I can tolerate that helps delay exacerbation.
Thankful to have a doctor who was kind, patient with explaining all concerns and answering my questions. I highly recommend Dr. Hagenau. I cannot rate diagnosis as I have further testing to do.
