Hands down Dr. MCcollum has taken care of my son since the age of 1 and hes now 18 years of age. He has always been a great Physician and role model. Whenever Ive taken visited with him hes talked with him and was as gentle and his bedside manner is phenomenol. His nurse Ashley is even the greatest. More recently my son had to visit their office. Ashley called to check on him after he visited over a week ago. I highly recommend Tennessee Medicine and Pediatric. But I only recommended Dr. McCollum. Keep up the good work.
You never see him you always see his nurse. If you miss an appointment you have to wait another two months to get in! Always over books and you never see him!
Dr. McCollum is one of the finest PCPs and seemingly one of the finer men Ive met. He is the physician for my entire family. Unlike experiences Ive had with doctors in the past, Dr. McCollum involves me as a player in my own health and well being. Some reviews, I believe, misinterpret his approach as uncaring but Id argue his approach comes from a caring spirit. He gives you as a patient responsibility for your own health but will give you his opinion and expertise. Id describe him his extremely intelligent, well read, wise beyond his years and overall a credit to the profession. My wife is a nurse and she certainly shares my respect and regard for Dr. McCollum.
Hes very thorough and caring. As a medical professional myself, I appreciate his more conservative side. Great bedside manner. I was in for a work in appointment and he took the time to counsel me in the lab while I was waiting for a test to be ran. Referred me to another specialty for a more holistic approach to healing. I highly recommend Mr. Mac!
I tried several times to see Dr Mccollum and gave up and went back to my old doctor who is 25 miles away but well worth it, appointments are hard to get since this doctor doesnt work everyday so you end up seeing a nurse practioner.I had some blood work done which they completley messed up and when I contacted them they told me I still had to pay, finally Dr Mc wrote to me and said he didnt want me as a patient any more,Yipppppeeeeeeeeeee free again at last.
When my kids first started seeing him, I loved him. I felt like he really cared. As time went on, that feeling went away. I now always feel belittled & not listened too about my concerns. What happened to mother know best. I understand that this is not always true. My son has developmental delays & Dr. McCollum, just acts like I shouldnt worry. What good mother knows that their kids is behind others his age and doesnt worry. All I have asked for is an explanation & he cant give me one because he doesnt feel we need to look into further. My son is in OT, PT, & ST for delays. Dr. McCollum seems to be unwilling to look for possible causes. Also, my daughter poops maybe once a week & he says that is okaynot to worry about it!! She is often in pain because of straining due to constipation & he says it is not big dealshe is just naturally constipatedis that crazy or what!
Tried several times to see Dr J McCollum gave up and found a doctor that saw me the same day, Office staff dont care either, have a take it or leave it attitude, dont waste your time find another Doctor
It is near impossible to get an appointment with an MD usually you have to see a nurse practitioner. In my case the one I saw under Dr. McCulloms supervision refused to listen to my symptoms, ordered a test that had no relevance to my symptoms and diagnosed me with a pulled muscle in my stomach. Four weeks and 2 calls to the office later I wound up in the ER with a Dr that confirmed my research into my pain it was in fact my gall bladder not a pulled muscle. One day later I had surgery no thanks to TN Medicine and Pediatrics. Talking to Dr. McCullom weeks later he stood by the nurse practitioner Missys assessment and diagnosis. The bottom line is the NP ordered a test that was unnecessary and neither she or Dr. McCullom were concerned that I was in pain for a month. I am deeply disturbed that he completely agreed with her and did not feel in the least that my case was in any way mishandled. Needless to say I am changing Drs and will NEVER return to this sorry excuse of medical professionals.
Dr. McCollum is a very caring doctor. He listens and takes all the time you need to explain things to you. The office staff is equally caring and professional. I trust him explicitly.
Its very difficult to make an appointment with this doctor and after the first visit you will almost always be shifted to nurses. The turn over of nurses, along with the high amount of nurses, means you will most likley not see the same one twice. Serious heart conditions went undiagnosed and illnesses were misdiagnosed. He often would laugh and mock health concerns.
