List of Robert Maxwell Smith's Reviews
Before I started seeing Dr. Smith and his staff in 2018, just the very thought of having an appointment caused me anxiety for weeks before. His kindness, knowledge, and compassion is amazing, and it has helped me tremendously approach every medical appointment with any healthcare provider feeling much calmer. I stopped warily counting down the days until my appointments (which was very stressful watching them get closer and closer). I decided to take a chance on him and his practice in 2018, and it was the best decision I could have made. He absolutely helped me improve my quality of life by helping me reduce anxiety.
My son has chronic Lyme disease. The first time he had a flare up years ago, Dr. Smith was GREAT. Very helpful and understanding. This current flare up he was not so great. We saw him once to discuss the extreme fatigue and all Dr. Smith talked about was his knee. He felt my son's knee so aggressivly that it made him wince in pain. Dr. Smith asked if we have seen the doctor he referred us to. We had not and explained that we were not comfortable with a doctor that used crystals for healing. Dr Smith stated that my son should "suck it up" and go back to school. We asked about the fatigue and he said that was a different concern. When we explained that was why we were they he said that we would need to make another appointment.
Dr. Smith was a good man until he sided with his rude receptionist SHANNON. I really liked him, thought he was exceptional since he personally took me into his office to show me a picture of him being the teams' physical trainer (back in the day)for Wake Forest Mens Basketball Team. (I played at Syracuse University). I'm sure Shannon won't last long since bc I've already heard another story of her talking down to another patient. She is rude, obnoxious and has no business being a receptionist for patients that don't feel too good. When I talked to him on his $89 Zoom call, I told him I wasn't happy. He immediately took her side. I asked him to PLEASE listen to the call-he said he had already spoken to his office staff and they confirmed I was wrong and she was right? ok, let's give this 2 months. Guaranteed she won't be there and neither will I along with many other patients. Our family really like you Smith, I'm just SMH
The absolute worst experience with any Physician ever. Was told that he didn’t have time to read up on my daughters condition. Was incensed when we visited a specialist without his knowledge. Too focused on typing in to his computer to truly focus on personal care. If you fit into his scope of knowledge and do not question then Dr. Smith may be for you. If you present w a challenging, thought provoking situation I would totally steer clear. Hope this helps someone in search of compassionate, open minded, team approach advocate who values the experiences of his patients and loves a challenging health issue. Steer clear.
Dr. Smith has been my doctor for many years, luckily I don't have to see him except for annual or the very rare health issue. This will be the 3rd location that I have had with him. The new location is smaller, but more intimate and the exterior is much nicer. I was seen right away at my appt time (a little late because I went to the old office) Dr. Smith is friendly and quick to identify issues. Sometimes this can come off as "too quick" or not listening, but I have never had a problem explaining to him with any detail the issue, if I felt it needed more explanation. I was considering choosing a closer physician due to location and I had not been seen in over two years, but my recent visit and the new office has confirmed for me that staying with him is a good choice. I did hear that the insurance had changed for his office, but I had no issues and my insurance was not an issue. I requested an appointment and was seen within 24 hours (I had to be flexible to take the appointment, but that is not an issue if you want to be seen) A weird thing is I should have to pay a copay, but I was not billed and I have not seen a bill yet. I will update if there are any discrepancies.
Dr. Smith has been my primary care doctor for several years, until today when I arrived for my appointment and was told that he no longer accepts my insurance. The receptionist told me the change was in effect as of July, yet I never received a letter or any indication of the change. And neither was I told when I called last week to make my appointment.Needless to say, I was in shock this morning, and left high and dry with no way to get my prescription refilled which I need this week. I'm beyond disappointed and saddened by the way this office treated me. I've always had respect for Dr. Smith, and felt he was a caring physician. But after today, I find myself writing the first review I've ever posted online. To warn others that you may very well find yourself treated like no more than a dollar sign if you choose Dr. Smith as your doctor.
This is a great practice overall with friendly, efficient staff. Never a long wait before getting in to see the doctor. Dr Smith is knowledgeable, friendly and listens to what I have to say. Highly recommend this family practice.
My experience w/ Dr. Robert Smith, has been truly amazing. His staff is caring, king & trustworthy; taking time to listen & report back to Dr. Smith or one of his Nurse Practitioners. They handle all of your concerns quickly & refer you to the right people, if you have a specialized issue. Moving from another state, w/ complex medical issues, I was worried at first, but once I was there-I was welcomed w/ warm smiles & understanding hearts. Dr. Smith truly cares about his patients!!
Dr. Smith recently affiliated his practice with a large regional healthcare company. I wanted a doctor from a smaller official Cathay could provide direct, personal service attention and service. Fortunately, none of that has changed since the merger. Dr. Smith is bright, sociable and highly skilled. He's an excellent doctor!
Finding a Doctor for my family and I was of utmost importance when we moved to the area we did back in 2003, luckily for us Dr. Smith took over the practice we were associated with at the time and also delivered my 6th child. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Smith, having been a patient of his now for 10 years, a wonderful Doctor to Patient rapport has definitely formed. He truly listens to his patients concerns and you get the feeling that he really cares about his patients.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
