I had hip replacement surgery yesterday, and while I had truly exemplary care from every staff member involved in my hospital procedure, Dr. Oscar’s was especially remarkable. I was in recovery for over three hours, apparently really enjoying my trip to lala land, so my excellent surgical anesthesia team had already gone for the day and Dr. Oscar was left to do the largely perfunctory exit review. Instead of a wave from the door, he actually sat at my bedside and explained what to expect postoperatively in a personable and reassuring way I hadn’t experienced before after any of the multiple surgeries I’ve had during a lifetime. Even in my still-quite-loopy state, he made a memorable impression.
