Everyone in our family has seen Dr. Alvarez at one time or another for foot problems ranging from sports injuries to plantar fasciitis. He is incredibly knowledgeable, very thorough, very personable, and very patient. Chattanooga is fortunate to have an orthopedic specialist of Dr. Alvarez’s caliber in our medical community.

I saw Dr Alvarez after another surgeon performed a debilitating surgery. Dr Alvarez corrected as much as he could and though I still have life altering issues, I have more mobility and less pain. He performed surgery on the opposite foot 4 months later and I am very pleased with his expertise and the outcome thus far.

Excellent doctor and staff!! He strives to help his patients heal vs surgery. I can’t say enough about him and his knowledge!!

I am a physician who had a severe ankle injury involving repair of my fibula with plate and screws, and repair of multiple ligaments. I am extremely grateful for the caliber of his expertise. He does amazing surgery! He also repaired my neighbors heel bone which was shattered in pieces. To recover from injuries like these requires a surgeon with a gift. God bless Dr. Alvarez!

Do not see this doctor. I have had extreme foot pain the past 6 years of my life. I saw doctor Alvarez for a year until he was clueless of what my injury was. He was completely against getting an MRI even though I asked multiple times. Instead he decided to send me to a rheumatologist for an entire year with no evidence. After being at the rheumatologist for an entire year I finally got an MRI that completely ruled out any form of arthritis. I still have extreme foot pain, and Dr. Alvarez was unable to help in the slightest.

After many years of agonizing pain in my left big toe, from arthritis, Dr. David Phillips referred me to Dr. Alvarez. He took X-rays and explained that I needed surgery. He performed the surgery and I haven’t had any pain, at all, since. I have read the above reviews and understand it is frustrating when the Doctor is late. He has to deal with emergencies and take sufficient time for other patients. I don’t know the man outside his office but I know he took time with me and made my toe where it doesn’t hurt. If anyone in my family has foot problems, they are going to Dr. Alvarez. Nuff said.

Horrible doctor do not waste your time. Very long wait to start off, and the doctor does not take time to look at your thoroughly because they prioritize money. Dr. Alvarez is supposedly the best foot doctor in Chattanooga but that is very incorrect. This doctor is way overrated. He did not help my feet in the slightest, he refrained from getting me an MRI when I had been in miserable pain every single day for 6 years, and instead he thought it was a good idea to send me to a rhumatologist with zero evidence to suggest arthritis... After all that I got a MRI at vanderbilt that ruled out arthritis with 99.9% certainty.

Dr. Alvarez is tops in his field. We are very lucky to have a surgeon of his stellar caliber in our area. Ive had ankle surgery under his care and it was just as he predicted. He did a fantastic job in diagnosis patient care and monitoring PT as I eased to full recovery. My Brother also had surgery with him after my surgery was a success too. If you do your part following directions PT he will do his. Hes got a great team working with him so if you have anklefoot issues Dr. Richard Alvarez and his team are the ones to call for an appointment.
