James L Marcum's Online Review Report Card

I came in with a chief complaint of fatigue and feeling a rapid heartbeat. Dr. Marcum asked some questions told me it was probably hormonal and send me on my way. A later appointment with a pulmonologist showed heart irregularities and I was sent me back to Marcum. He ordered a 24hr heart halter test. The test showed near a dozen episodes during that period. I was put on medication and when I literally stopped sleeping on the medication Dr Marcum just shrugged and said “All medicine has side effects.”When I asked the practice to move me to a different doctor they said they didn’t do that.I will say his nurse practitioner is a dream. She listened to my concerns and offered helpful advice.

I have been to see Dr Marcum twice in about two years. Both times for what were valid reasonschest pain on left side pain radiating down my arm between shoulder blades up my neck and jaw pain. The first time he came in barely acknowledged me and my husband and said “you just need to be on a plant based diet” but listened to my heart and then said “it’s probably just your gallbladder.” Dismissed us. We were like ok. Then this time same symptoms he came in very annoyed and said right off in the rudest tone “You just need to go to the ER but it doesn’t sound like your heart It sounds like from your symptoms that you’ve pulled a muscle but you just need to go to the ER We’re not equipped here in the office to run the test you need just go to the ER”I am fully aware of my body and this wasn’t a trip warranted to the ER. I do think it wasis a pulled muscle perhaps but his whole tone and bedside manner is rude Rude Rude I do not care for him at all I will not be back at his office for anything And if I’m ever at the hospital in need of a cardiologist and he’s the doctor on call I’m going to ask for somebody else

He is plantbaed and gives excellent nutritional recs and resources. Knows when to use medications and technology

He is a physician who tries to use less medications and accomplish changes with lifestyle modification when appropriate. I appreciate that as I was having side effects.

I came for a second opinion and was very satisfied with the balanced approach to my medical condition
