Mark Wathen's Online Review Report Card

I have been with Dr Wathen and TN heart for over 5 years. He performed two ablations on my heart. Doctor, TN Heart, and Cookeville hospital have treated me well. He and his organization were very advanced compared to earlier treatments. I have plenty of bad habits and doctor always treated me with respect and the best care. The office is well run and the hospital staff he used during the operation were top flight. My life is better 👍🏻

As bad as it can be. Very demeaning, distrustful of what the patient is telling him. Acts as though your troubling him by taking up his time. Wouldn't recommend him to anyone. Argumentative. Acting like a irratic rythm is associated with dreams.and in his words everyone has irregular heart rhythms. And swings his arms very poor body language. Poorest people skills I have ever came in contact with in the medical profession. And I've been a R N for over 30 years. So that's saying a lot. He's probably old enough to retire. Hopefully he will do so and let someone that knows how to communicate and has a little compassion step in.

I am 70 years old. I have had constant Afib for 3 years. I was always tired and lacked any energy or stamina. The cardiologist I was seeing said a lot of things most of which didnt help. I got a referral to Dr. Wathen. He reviewed my cardio history and said the best words I had heard in a couple of years why dont we just fix it? I though major surgery or a pacemaker but Dr. Wathen recommended a Cardio Version. He explained the procedure and the risks. I always like anything that may promise high rewards with minimal risk. Long story short On October the 8th 2019 Dr. Wathen performed my cardio version. I was in and out by noon. This is important. I have gone 4 months without a sign of Afib. I am regaining my strength I feel great and I now celebrate October 8th as my new rebirth date. That is how much my life has changed. I wish I had found Dr. Wathen 3 years ago. Thank you Dr. Wathen.

Mark Wathen is a card and I mean that in the best possible way. Twisted sense of humor aside (which I really admired!) he is one of those guys who, if the procedure doesn't work the first time--and sometimes it doesn't--he will do it again, and again if necessary. I really enjoyed dealing with him when he was at Vanderbilt, and if I had to have more work done and I was in the Cookeville area, his would be the first name I would look for. He's a good man and a great doctor and he WILL fix your heart problem. Period.

Lousy. He did not appreciate being asked a question more than once. Amazing his lack of patience.

Well Mr.Wathen, you sent my husband home to go have a scope on his knee. You canceled all the test he was scheduled to have that day. And you told me I didn't know how to take a pulse when I have been a nurse over 30 years. I think you need to go back to where ever you came from. Because going to two real Doctors, one being a REAL CARDIOLOGIST, MY HUSBAND DID HAVE A LIGHT HEART ATTACK! I wouldn't bring an animal to you or that hospital.

Dr. was extremely knowledgeable and experienced in electrical parts of heart. He explains everything so you can understand it. Very blessed to have him take care of my dad.

Dr. Wathen was my surgeon for my defibrillator implant. After the implant, he discovered that one or more wires were not connected and stated he would hook them up when I came back for a cardioversion the next week. At that time he did not remember the non connected wires and there was a considerable time delay after I had been prepped for surgery which meant they had to reapply the conductive gel for the cardioversion. This blistered my back for almost four weeks. He never acknowledged his mistake. but did find the time to lecture me about watching my liquid intake as my legs were very swollen after I got out of the ICU (I was on life support for two days where they overhydrated me). I was on life support because I went into a comma due to anxiety. After being released from the hospital and told by Dr. Wathen to stay in bed through the next day. The next day instead of bed rest, his office called telling me to report to their office immediately. After an hour's drive to get there they told me I was due to have my INR checked!! I would only recommend Dr. Wathen to those with a Death Wish.
