List of Thomas Gautsch's Reviews
I had searched for several years to find a doctor that did not do the traditional over the knee, knee replacement surgery. I was terrified to have to go through that pain and long recovery. In finding Dr Gautsch I found a surgeon with a different method for knee surgery, his method is a procedure that makes the incision from the inside of your leg lifting the knee cap up, not touching the tendon in the front of your knee making the surgery an out-patient procedure for most. The recovery time is half the time of traditional surgery. I went in for Surgery February 28th 2022 and graduated from physical therapy March 30th 2022. I went back to work full time on April 3rd 2022. The true test for my knew knee came in May when I went fly fishing for the first time. I have gone several time since and feel safe on my knew knee. Dr Gautsch was warm, very knowledgeable and his technique works. You as the patient HAVE to follow the rules. He is strict but with only your best recovery in mind.
Second knee replacement 5 weeks after my first. All went extremely well. Very pleased and so very glad I went to Dr. Gautsch.
Contemplating knee replacement was not a decision I took lightly. I have had relatives who had the procedure in my past and because I was curious, I did extensive research and frankly scared the “willingness” out of myself once I learned how intense it is! As a result, I leaned hard on my long-time Ortho Surgeon, who had obtained an elite professional status overtime, to please try to repair my damaged 60+ year old knee one more time. He relented and did what he could the summer of 2021…with minimal success. He was frank with me and told me that both knees were beyond further repair and recommended Dr. Gautsch. He showed me a video of a patient who was walking out of the surgery center with little difficulty right off the operating table!! I was so relieved! About seven years ago my best friend from high school had described his procedures, which were done at the world renown Cleveland Clinic, as “state of the art” and “minimally invasive.” Having endured five knee repair procedures over the past two decades, I realized we had a surgeon here in Middle Tennessee that followed a similar protocol to repair his patients, and I knew in my heart I had found someone who could restore my quality of life with a minimal amount of side effects and down-time! I scheduled an appointment, and with about 10 minutes of pre-surgery discussion and a few x-rays to confirm my condition, he and I agreed to set a surgery date for my first procedure for July 2022. As promised, I was in at 10am and on my way home about 3pm with only a walker (the only time I used it BTW) to ensure I didn’t fall as the anesthesia wore off. Two days later, I was up and about, most of the pain had disappeared, and I was able to get around to use the restroom, shower, and to make coffee and breakfast. I was elated! Three days post-op I met with my long-time PT coordinator and began my physical therapy. Not only was I amazed but they nicknamed me “Mr. Incredible.” I had others with me receiving therapy who were six-eight weeks out of their surgeries with very limited walking ability and relying heavily on their walkers. Within three weeks, I returned to the classroom to teach Chemistry and Biology and only needed an ice-pack twice a day to help with the swelling. I am now 16 weeks out, riding my Schwinn stationary bike five times a week, and am so grateful for Doctor Gautsch caring enough about his patients to refine his craft to such a “state-of-the-art” level…and for the Lord leading me to him to repair this broken body!
In October 2022, I had two total knee replacement surgeries done four weeks apart by Dr. Thomas Gautsch. Both were outpatient and done at Indian Lake Surgery Center in Hendersonville, TN. While surgery and recovery can be challenging, I could not be more pleased with the results. Dr. Gautsch is a very knowledgeable, skilled and experienced surgeon that uses the less invasive, side-incision that allows a quicker recovery. He has surrounded himself with a team of good people to complete the healing and rehabilitation. After years of knee pain due to arthritis, it was time to consider my options. I heard about the non traditional side-incision surgery from a friend who recommended Dr. Gautsch. After discussions and research, I also chose Dr. Gautsch. My initial appointment included X-rays and informative discussion with Dr. Gautsch where he took the time to answer my questions and confirm that I would be a good candidate for this type of surgery. I scheduled my surgery appointments and left feeling confident with my decision. My therapy is going extremely well, and I would recommend that anyone facing knee replacement consider Dr. Thomas Gautsch.
I’m extremely pleased with my total knee replacement. Dr. Gautsch and his staff are professionals who are caring, encouraging, and supportive. I was walking with full weight on my knee the day of surgery and was able to go home the same day. The pain and recovery time were minimal thanks to his great physical therapists. Your services will be highly recommended to all I know.
Had my right knee joint replaced, consultation prior to surgery impressed me with his experience and aggressive approach to recovery, now at OP+3 wks , >106 degrees of movement, walking 2KM twice a day , and can rotate 360degree on the exercise bike …. Be prepared for the high expectations that come from his No muscle / ligament cutting procedure ….
I am a 64 year old extremely active person. Previous injuries and surgeries had rendered my left knee beyond repair. In short, my only option was complete knee replacement. I researched "traditional" knee replacement and found it nothing short of amputation. The deal breaker for me was long recovery time, mobility limitations and no guarantee as to how long the "new" joint would last. Several guys at the gym who had recently had total knee replacements suggested I look into the procedure performed by Dr. Gautsch as their experience and outcome was nothing short of amazing. They were right! I was in physical therapy the day after surgery, driving and back in the gym after 4 days and full range of motion after 6 weeks. Every week past 6 has seen remarkable improvement. I am scheduled to have my right knee replaced in December. If your desire is to live a life without limitations, this is the procedure for you.
Dr. Gautsch is awesome! Don’t hesitate calling him if you need surgery. His entire staff is so friendly and caring. His physical therapists are in office and so caring. ❤️
I have had a great experience and outcome. The knee replacement surgery is miles ahead of the standard most surgeons use. I highly recommend this procedure.
