Dr. Sumida did an outstanding job on my knee. Highly recommend him and his staff.

Terrible bedside manner. The Dr. was unwilling to talk about my knee totally and fully. The answers he provided were curt and not fully explained. The office, in general, seemed dysfunctional. On my 12/30 visit, I explained that I had a balance that I needed to pay. The person at the desk told me the amount, looked at me and said "does that sound right"? How would I know? The general atmosphere seems tentative, if not slightly negative. So, I called the River Run Health office at the Downtown location. Ginger, a nurse, listened carefully and patiently to my entire story. My injury is more than 30 years old and is only now beginning to cause me problems. She gave me more advice, and demonstrated more concern in a 15 minute phone call than Dr. Sumida did in all of the in-person visits I'd made. River Run Health Downtown listened to my concerns and began the scheduling process with another physician within their practice.

Totally rude, non-caring, rude to his staff, should not be practicing Medicaine! Denied need extra care twice when it was clearly needed. Preformed surgery that was supposed to solve a problem and made it worse.

Everyone is super friendly....felt like family on my first visit...I was so nervous about meeting Dr...he was extremely nice and made me very comfortable. I really appreciate no judgment here....at other places the Dr will judge your size...but not this Dr. He definitely listens to you...highly recommend. Thank you 😊

Fell and had a bad break in my left arm. Dr. Sumida was able to operate and repair it. Had some discomfort, but no pain. His excellent surgical talent and his smooth, customer service visits make him #1 in my book. Will always be grateful he was recommended to me. Top-notch surgeon with an excellent team behind him.

Dr. Sumida was first a friend and now my surgeon for anything orthopedic. After a couple of successful surgeries, Dr. Sumida has been my "go to" orthopedic doctor for over 20 years!

I've used Dr. Sumida's services on two separate occasions. His treatment plan was conservative and perfect for me. He took time to explain the plan and answer my questions. I highly recommend him!

Dr. Sumida displays a complete lack of empathy for patients when discussing potential surgery. Telling a patient to “settle down” after said patient is completely confused and doesn’t understand the process of going through an MRI image, or the process of surgery, and dismissing questions that they have, illustrates his unprofessionalism and poor attitude. I (mistakenly) told the nice nurses that he did not go over the MRI image with me, because I truly did not understand that pulling up an MRI and discussing it with me for three minutes before leaving the room was considered a full consultation. I thought we had to wait to receive the original X-rays before we fully discussed the MRI and the next steps regarding surgery. That was my understanding. Sumida then comes back in the room and tells me to "settle down," and "how dare I tell his staff that he didn't go through the MRI with me"...when I legitimately did not know that he considered his 3-minute consultation as "going over the MRI." I am used to doctors spending a bit more time with their patients. It is apparent that, in the eyes of Sumida, for patients to show any type of emotion or confusion is inexcusable. He was curt and accused me, implying that I was trying to cause trouble--when I truly did not understand that the consult was complete. This behavior was really rude and hurtful. The nurses and techs are EXTREMELY nice, and they redeem the place, but I will not be going back or trusting Sumida after his complete dismissal of my feelings and his mistreatment of me. Part of being a doctor includes having a good bedside manner, listening to a patient, explaining the process in full when they are confused, and not treating their questions as nuisances. Furthermore, telling someone to "settle down," when I honestly did not yell or display any inappropriate behavior...was extremely uncalled for on the part of Sumida. I think he saw my eyes water a little bit, so he thought that it was then appropriate to tell me to "settle down." I didn't know having any type of emotions regarding a painful ankle fracture was considered inappropriate in his eyes.

Dr Sumida is very compassionate. He takes time to explain your condition and treats conservatively until that no longer works. An excellent surgeon!

Would absolutely recommend Dr. Sumida to anyone! He truly cared about healing my wife from her pain when other doctors were quick to dismiss her. His office is clean and new, and staff was friendly as well.
