This is the Rolls Royce of eye surgeries, particularly for premium focal cataract surgery. This multi-lens surgery allows you to correct both near-and far-sightedness, throwing away all glasses forever. But it's not covered by Medicare. My surgery was done by Dr. Shamie-- very professional. The out-patient surgery itself is only 15 min., in their own facility, with follow-up appointments. The entire staff--including optometrist Dr. Luu-- are empathic, always on-time. This surgery was worth every penny!
About a month later I'm still looking around and can't believe I'm seeing the way I'm able to see now. Sometimes I still try to squint my eyes and have to remind myself it's not necessary anymore. The whole team at this institute is kind and helpful and their system allows for everything to flow smoothly. I felt comfortable and confident choosing them to perform such a life changing procedure. I've already been trying to refer friends!
Dr Shamie is a really good surgeon and a nice person. She made me feel comfortable throughout the process and communication was open and two way always. I highly recommend their services.
i have been in glasses or contacts since I was twelve years old. To open my eyes and see clearly near and far thanks to Dr. Maloney and my new mono-vision Lasik'd eyes is a dream come true!!! I couldn't recommend that wonderful doctor and his caring team more!! I can see!! ~ Yvette Nicole Brown
July 2022 was my second experience with Maloney-Shamie Vision Institute, having had Lasix surgery by Dr. Maloney in 2008. What a blessing it was to be able to see without contacts or glasses. However, as my eyes aged, I developed cataracts and was wearing reading glasses once again. I went to see Dr. Shamie for cataract surgery and was reassured by her calm demeanor in explaining the surgical procedure in detail as well as my options for the various types of implantable lenses. I chose the lenses that have a prescription for close-up vision in one eye and distance vision in the other. In the interim between the consultation and the surgery, I found the staff to be very responsive to the questions I asked or emailed. The procedures themselves (each eye, a week apart) took place at a Beverly Hills Surgery center where I found the nurses, techs and anesthesiologists to be efficient and professional. Within a day of each surgery, my eyes seemed totally recovered and I could read without glasses. Overall, my experience with Maloney-Shamie Vision was very positive and I recommend this practice without reservation.
SO grateful for Dr. Shamie for my perfect vision. I had my lasik procedure a little less than a month ago and my eyes are perfectly healed and seeing great! My eyes were a little on the dry side for a week or two during the healing process (as expected) but now at 4 weeks post op they feel pretty perfect! I just got back from a trip to visit relatives in Texas and I had such a blast boating and swimming in the lake without having to worry about contacts or glasses. So stoked!!!
My mom had her lasik done by Dr. Maloney in 1997 and so he was my first consideration as she continues to rave about him.I ask my eye doc for referrals and Dr. Maloney was top of his list. The whole experience was terrific. The staff are professional, kind, and gave me a lot of confidence.Dr. Maloney walked me through the procedure and kept me posted on progress and before I knew it my surgery was complete.1 week later I'm now seeing 20/15 with no side effects.Highly recommend!
Maloney-Shamie Vision Institute is given 5 Stars because they earned the stars. The admin staff is professional and attentive. The medical staff is courteous, highly skilled and trained. My former eye surgeries were Lasik and Cataract with Dr. Maloney. I moved from California to Texas in 2021 and received two exams here in Austin from top professionals for a pending cataract surgery. The doctors here were not able to convince me that they were the best. I will be going back to visit the Maloney-Shamie team. Linda M.
Dr. Maloney and his team made getting Lasik a breeze and completely pain-free! The entire process from initial consultation to surgery and recovery only took a few weeks, and I now have perfect vision in both eyes after 25+ years of glasses and contacts. If you're considering Lasik, choose the surgeon that has the most experience and places patient health above all else - Dr. Maloney and the Vision Institute team is the way to go!
I was told on initial Zoom Consultation that with my prescription I'm eligible for Lasik costing $6600. I went in for the in person consultation that would verify if indeed eligible, and upfront paid $200. Right away the nurse said "so I heard you don't want to do the mono-vision. Why is that?" I said I don't think I could get used to it. I get dizzy adjusting to my progressives. Then she kept talking about why it is the right thing for me and over the course of several tests she kept selling me on it. As she was piquing my interest I asked if it was the same price and same amount of recovery time- she said yes. I was more interested after she was telling me that someday if I get cataracts I would never have to fix them and gave several other benefits as to why lens replacement is so much more beneficial. I again asked her if it was the same price and the same amount of recovery time, so I asked that twice over the course of an hour of testing and both times she said "oh yes".Then she did a cataract test and other tests and at some point then said that my current prescription is actually too weak and that I'm not even eligible for lasik so my only option is Mono-Visión through ELR. -- Please note that the prescription I am wearing everyday, all day, works great for me.She then pulls out a price list and points to a number that says ELR/Mono-Visión is $9000 per eye. I, in shock, say wow I asked you if it was the same price and she nervously laughed and said "oh I thought you were"... And at that moment Dr. Moloney walked in. Introduced himself and I said I have sticker shock. She said oh yeah doctor she's actually not eligible for Lasik because blah blah blah. He then looked at my eyes and said maybe I should try monovision contacts in the meantime while I "save up my money". What?!! I said that $18k isn't happening anytime soon because I have a kid going to college. He then dictated an email to my Optometrist telling her he suggests contacts because of financial reasons and not being able to do the ELR-Mono-Vision right now. And he left the room. The nurse then said to me "well if you come into some money"...and handed me a folder of the pricing and info. Floored. I would love to think that that nurse is not on commission at an eye doctor. Was this eye-appointment all a shill to upsell me to the $18k procedure?I'm going elsewhere and getting a second opinion because I'm pretty sure I was just completely mis-diagnosed. I hope I save others the time, money, embarrassment, frustration and letdown that I experienced.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
